A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

The Drowsy Chaperone

We went to grandson Tyler's performance yesterday. He was in the musical..."The Drowsy Chaperone" We had never heard of this musical, so we were in for an afternoon of fun and music. The musical won two emmys a few years ago and starred Carson Kressley and Georgia Engels (she played Georgette on the Mary Tyler Moore show )when it was on broadway. It's a play within a play...a parody of the musicals of the 1920's. It's a hilarious tale about a celebrity bride on her wedding day told by a musical fan sitting on stage left playing a a record on an old Victrola. The record comes to life on stage and the story begins.
Tyler has been in several musicals, but this one was the best production we had seen. They practiced for four months...learning the score and even learning to tap dance. I asked Tyler if any of the kids had tapped before and he said no that they had a choreographer teach them the steps. He played his part beautifully (proud Grandma) So many wonderful vocals in this cast. All in all....we had a wonderful time and appreciate all the months of hard work that went into it.
Tyler has been in a group called "The Jersey Kids" all through high school. They sing the music of the  Jersey Boys, who perform all over the country. The kids have recently changed their name to Project Two. They have performed in many places locally. The last place was at Del Webb's Sun City, where one of the cast of the Chicago Jersey Boys joined them on stage and sang a few songs with them. We just listened to the CD of this performance and how they have grown since the first time we saw them performing in the high school library. They are a very professional looking group whose moves brought Joe and I back to the 50's. I don't know where Tyler is heading in his years after high school, but I'm sure it will involve music in some way

Balisha, being a reader of your blog, I can't help but feel that sense of kinship with the people close to you... First with Audra, then Sydney, and then John... Now with Tyler who's about to turn 17 in a few months...

I am not familiar with this musical but I was surprised that Carson Kressley was part of it...

I love music and I wish well those who tread the line in this field... Best of luck for Tyler!

Hi Jan, Ernestine and Mark,
This musical was very entertaining. It was kind of fun going to a performance..not knowing a thing about it before hand.It takes skill to get 30 or 40 kids together and do a performance like this one. Tyler said the practices were very stressful. That and keeping up with school work was really hard for the students.
I researched it on the internet after we saw the performance. I believe Carson Kressley played the part of the narrator and didn't have a very big singing part.
