A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Someone's Drinking From the Hummingbird Feeder

We were starting to have a shower this morning. Joe and I went out to sit on the front porch to watch the rain come down. It is so dry here...the lawn looks like straw. Joe was about to do his happy rain dance, when he glanced down on the concrete floor and saw some very interesting foot prints. It hadn't rained long, so our intruder had just been here.
I quickly looked to the left at our hummingbird feeder...empty! The little marauder had been here just minutes ago in broad daylight...trying to grab a drink of juice. It makes me more alert now...I won't be going out on the porch in the dark and chance sitting on one. We already knew who it was...the raccoon.

The question is how did he do it? The feeder is hanging so high and nothing was disturbed around it. The feeder simply fell apart, when he started drinking...and maybe he had to make a quick trip off the porch, when he heard us coming. Part of the feeder was in the flower bed.

The red dot shows how high the feeder hung. We're thinking that it must have been a big one...with perfect balance to have managed to drink out of it on that slippery railing and nothing to hang on to, but the feeder.
We both wished that we had been able to see it. I had ideas in my head for pictures for this blog. Joe had other ideas that involved a weapon. I don't think for a minute that he would shoot it, he's kind of a softy. This fellow may be a little bigger than the last ones we saw...we'll have to keep alert.

Oh, how I wish I had a covered porch where I could sit and watch the rain...when we built our deck 20 years ago, I had planned to add on a covered section just so I could sit out there in the rain and admire the gardens, but that never happened.

Those racoons are not nice. I think Joe has the right idea.

That's so funny. Do you supposed the little fellow unscrewed it?

We are puzzled by how he reached it.
It must have been a big fellow. I just moved it to another hook. This is right on the front porch where people go by all day long. What a brazen fellow.

Balisha, I love my porches. Covered in the front, screen on the side and my deck that overlooks woods and feeders.
I have all kind of critters here :)

This is so funny. Mine was on the ground this morning too Balisha and I wondered how that coon ever got to it on the tall shepherds hook. LOL! They find a way.

How could he get to it? What a mystery. Maybe you could get a live trap and get the little dickens and then take him for a ride out into the country?

One of our neighbors trapped them last year and did take them for a ride...or so he told us.
