A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Spring Cleaning

Sedums are always reliable. They are a no care plant. I have several different ones and they proved to be the favorite, along with lilies, last year in my garden. This morning I'm going out to clean up the sedums and get them ready for another year. They were the first plants to show some green this year. I do bring some of them into the garage for the winter.... the ones that are planted in pots. I don't want to lose the containers, so they winter in the garage. I have sprinkled them with water from time to time. Just a little with my hand or I pour out the rest of my bottled water when I get out of the car. They are in the company of my hens and chicks collection. I remembered that last fall I said that I would do a hanging basket totally of succulents. I think that I will try one this year. Dragging the hose is not my favorite thing to do. I'm going to try to remember this when planting. All my containers are near a water source right now...and that's where they will stay. I'm planting some sedums next to the mailbox. These are hardy and along with the lilies I think they will look nice. I won't be going to the gym this morning...I have work to do in the yard. I think I'll get my exercise :)

An update...I worked out in the woods this morning. I only maintain the front part..maybe 10 feet deep all across the woods. I leave the part behind that pretty natural, aside from clearing large pieces of branches that fall during storms and debris that may have collected there. I took the weed whacker with me and cut down the dead stems that were all over the area. I like to do this early, so that when the wild flowers come up...I'm not stepping on them. I pruned the three clematis on my trellis and then raked what I had cut down. I would work a little and sit a little....keeping in mind that I would have to haul my lawn cart full of tools back up to the house. As I sat there, I looked it over and thought that it looked pretty good and ready for Spring and what comes with it. The bird houses that had fallen were back up and ready for their occupants. The birds were flying in and out of the woods. They were waiting for me to leave, so they could investigate all the spots that I had raked.I don't believe that I have lost anything due to the horrible winter we just experienced. The new bushes have buds on them...I am anxious to see them in bloom. I came back to the house and came in to fix dinner. I'm so thankful that I can keep gardening. We will take it a year at a time.

I, too, love sedums. They look great with almost no care other than cutting down the dead foliage each spring.

I love sedums but for some reason mine never seem to come back the next year. Even the ones I had in pots did not live. What am I doing wrong, Balisha???? I was going to ask you, "do you have my prize in the mail, do ya, do ya, huh, huh, but I read where you already mailed it. lol. I do have herbs coming up in my kitchen in pots. The chives, parsley and basil are all peeping through the soil! I am excited over that, too! Have a great weekend.

Balisha, your are so right to just take it a year at a time. Each year to a gardner is a gift!

Sedums make such nice, easy-care container plants Balisha! We had a couple of drizzly, but relatively warm days early this week, and they got me motivated to do some spring cleaning in the garden too!

What a wonderful post. So glad I did not miss it I am writing down a couple of your plants because I need suggestions here.
I am with you I hate dragging the big ole water hose.
Sounds like you really got a lot done I hope you enjoy all your spring loveliness.

Hi Zoey..I leave the plants go until spring too. They flop down with the weight of snow sometimes, but most of them look pretty with snow on them.

Judy....I meant to mail it today, but we got unexpected company and I didn't get to the PO on time. I'll mail it on Monday. Have a nice weekend.

Hi Margie, Eileen, and Linda...I think we all agree on Sedums...they are a nice addition to the garden.
I had a scare with that brain tumor and thought that maybe I'd not be able to garden anymore. Gardening again is truly a gift for me.

Hi Maggie...Thanks for taking the time to read and comment. So glad you enjoyed reading my post. I'll visit your blog later today. Have a nice weekend.

I am doing the same thing as you.
Yesterday cleaning the edge of the woods. Trying not to be tempted to clean further back :)
My son keeps telling me to pace myself as every night I am really tired. A good tired...

They are such a great no fuss perennial for the garden. Sounds like you've been busy, busy, busy. :)
