The Weather Report 2010

Is complaining a sign of someone getting old? Don't you just hate those people who complain about petty things? They always have a scowl on their faces and you try to change the subject or just avoid talking to them? I'm a pretty positive person normally..but sometimes I just have to voice my humble opinion.
We had a wild and stormy night here in Northern Illinois. Our weather radio was working overtime. Have you noticed that weather forecasting is not as good as it used to be? With all the technology...they just can't seem to get it right. Take for example last evening, the "weatherman" was telling about all their new equipment and especially the new tool to forecast the size of hail pellets. He was going on and on about how great this tool is...all the while I was hearing hail pelting our skylights. He had mentioned our town a few minutes earlier and said that we may experience hail. By the time he finished explaining...the hail had stopped for us. Our satellite went out during one of the storms and we had to switch to cable....only to find more weather reports and crawls across the bottom of the screen. The "new" radar pictures are so vivid with color now...we could hardly find our town on the map. The "weatherman" is going on and on about possible storms and we are saying, "Show us the whole radar...we want to see what's coming."Switching to other stations doesn't help, because they are all pretty much alike. During the night the weather radio (the best source of weather alerts in my opinion) kept us advised about storms heading our way. Then this morning, while still in bed, Joe turned on the TV to see what was going on. These two characters were sitting at a desk talking about the storms that were in our vicinity. They talked about the new "hail tool" again and started showing pictures of hail that someone had sent into the station. Actual pictures of a marble sized piece of hail lying on some wet mulch in someone's yard....All the while a storm is going on outside our window. They talked about their weather blog, and their facebook, and twitter....Good Lord! Just give me the simple weather forecast!!

Wow, I hope your gardens didn't sustain a lot of damage...that's some good sized hail! I'm glad your storm has passed, and I do agree with you about weather forecasting--as my Dad would say, 'I'll just get up in the morning and look out the window.' :)

Hello Balisha,

I do hope you have warmer weather soon. I think complaining is done by everyone at one time or another :-)

Balisha..I completely agree with you. With all the technology ...exactly! We have the same thing happening here. They always say a "chance of rain" but never a cloud appears..at least none that we can see.
We did get rain yesterday though..most of the day. They predicted a 80% chance and it actually happened!
I hear you! And hey, we have sort of earned our right to speak out! At least that's what I think. :)

You are so right! All of out tv stations go insane at the first drop of drizzle and are on "STROM WATCH" the rest of the day. It is just crazy. The other night it was really sort of bad and could I find radar...oh no..not at all. We had switched to ATT U-verse which has the WORST radar set up ever. We can get one channel's radar on our anttenae. And another thing is one channel is actually in FORT WORTH, but they really only cover Dallas. I don't get it. They are on the road that goes right into downtown Ft. Worth.

I'm a cranky ole lady about the weather. It used to be really good, but that guy died.
