Daisies ...Simplicity, Purity, Goodness, Cheerfulness, these are some of the attributes of the lowly daisy. It is one of the first flowers that little children enjoy...he loves me, he loves me not.
The first flower that we draw, as children, is a daisy. Simple yet elegant. Maybe you prefer the more elegant of flowers..roses, orchids etc. Maybe you like more fragrance...like a hyacinth or lily. I prefer daisies. White daisies. I had white daisies in my wedding bouquet. As children, we made daisy chains. Daisies are an ideal addition to almost any garden. Daisies can be found all over the world. Daisies grow wild all over the US. Most common colors include pink, yellow, purple, and of course white.The one found most in US backyards is the Ox-eyed daisy. It's the common, everyday daisy we love. Another well known variety is called the Shasta. I can remember in the 70's a gas station was giving Shasta daisy seeds away with each purchase of gas. My friends and I stopped at this gas station to collect the seeds for everyone. The seeds were planted and we all had huge white Shasta daisies in our gardens. The Shasta daisy attracts butterflies also. Black-Eyed Susan is another well known daisy type. I always loved that name. Black-Eyed Susan blooms are bright yellow with dark centers. Black-Eyed Susan thrives beautifully in a wild environment. They are the favorite daisy in my neighborhood for planting around the mailbox. They don't require as much water and are really carefree.They last into the fall and are great for indoor bouquets. The Gerbera daisy is fairly new to me. I received them a couple of summers ago in some hanging baskets. I took them out and planted them in the ground. The lasted all summer with deadheading and were a burst of color in a slightly shady spot. I love so many flowers and it is hard to pick a favorite, but I have to say that the daisy type flower is my favorite. I love to see them in the yard (and they do come up all over) love to pick them for my table, love to paint them, love to see them on fabric...I just love them...that's all.

I had a photo op once wherein all the pics I took were of African daisies. They were lovely... I am hoping to do it again - now that they are again in full bloom in my cousin's garden... :)

Again wish Marta a Happy Birthday! I always think that daisies are a beautiful flower for a young girl. We twisted them into a wreath for a flower girl's hair...for a wedding.So innocent and sweet.
A simple old fashioned flower that reminds me of childhood days. This is my grandmother's favorite flower. :)
