A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Men on the Roof and Yabba Dabba Doo

What do these two things have in common? I've been searching my brain to connect the two. Well, here goes. We noticed a stain on the ceiling a couple of weeks ago around one of the the skylights in the living room We called our contractor and he  came over and told us that we needed to replace the skylights. I guess that they don't last much more than 20 yrs...so these are about that age. They are on the roof installing them as I type. Don't you hate it when you have to replace something like a furnace, AC, roof or skylight....and you don't have a lovely piece of furniture, for instance, to enjoy and show to friends? Nothing pretty to show for all the money you've spent?

I just took this picture through the window and screen of the guys out eating a snack. One of these  guys lives in our neighborhood and his wife came over with a snack for them...even brought the dog.
Scott told us that these windows would brighten up the living room because of the new blinds that are attached.Hmmmm...I'll have to dust more..maybe.

Now we come to where I connect the two different topics in the title of this post. Below is a picture of a bright new rose for me. Yabba Dabba Doo...I bought 3. They are shrub roses and are planted in the new garden for remembering Tim. I have the new birdbath there, with a little boy standing next to it. .Tim always loved cartoons...and Fred Flintstone was a favorite. When I saw this rose...I had to have it. These  little things have bloomed their heads off.....and bright...I need sunglasses when I look at it.  I seem to go for the simple single petalled roses. I also like the blossoms of Japanese Anemones and single petalled peonies.
I ordered some Red Bunny Tails, which is an ornamental grass with cute little fuzzy tails on top. Trying to plant things that are kid related.....I suppose a dandelion might be appropriate. Heaven knows my kids have brought me so many bouquets of them.

Well, skylights and bright roses....it's a good thing for my old eyes.

Unfortunately, things don't last forever. How on earth are you going to dust blinds that are attached to these skylights? I wonder if you'll notice a big difference in the lighting in the room.

Those roses are bright that's for sure, but pretty and I love the name of them. The Flintstones was a favorite cartoon of mine when I was a girl. I like it that these are in your sons' garden. It all sounds lovely and a wonderful memorial.

Have a nice weekend ~ FlowerLady

I totally hear you on having to pay for repairs when you'd really love to have something nice in your home to enjoy. I went through that when we bought our fixer-upper here. And it still happens. We just had to replace our ancient fuse box. In my mind I had a vision of a new gas grill! lol!

The roses are very pretty! I think we have the same taste.

Have a great weekend!

XO,
Jane

Hi jane...A new fuse box!!!!! Why didn't we see a picture of this on your blog? Just kidding.

Hi Lorraine....No, no, no...we will not dust the blinds. They are so high up and no one will know except you.

Well, both the skylight and the roses can brighten your day!

Love those BRIGHT roses--and all the things you are doing for Tim's garden. When I lived on the farm, I used to sew wildflowers seeds in the fall also--I loved how they took over the small field next to my veggie garden. Too small a space now. Maybe I could sneak out to my sister's farm, someday when she's gone, and sew some around? hee hee hee

Those are some of the brightest colored roses I have ever seen. So pretty and cheerful!
I know just what you are talking about when it comes to repairs. We had to have an entire new roof, a new AC with all the trimmings such as all the vents...etc. The expense was enough to make one cry.
At least when we did the carpeting and painting you could see where the money went.
Yep...I completely understand! :)
We need new windows in our home. The windows in this house are from the 1950's when it was built. They are the ones that are made of glass slats the eventually let the cold air in.
We are putting it off...we probably shouldn't.
I would LOVE to have a sky light in my kitchen. But..they do eventually leak.
I hope your weather is better then ours. We are cooking out here.

I don't know about you, but I think a skylight that doesn't leak is a pretty thing to show off to friends. ;) And hey, replacing the leaky one also means that it won't be adding any damage to your home that would cost you even more money. You just have to wait a bit longer for some new furniture. Haha!
