A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Rose is Rose

Pat Brady (born October 12, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky) is an American cartoonist and creator of the comic strip Rose Is Rose, syndicated by United Feature Syndicate since 1983.
Brady started cartooning at the age of five, drawing cartoons during Roman Catholic mass. He was nicknamed "Pasquale" by the priest.Brady graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1969. He won the Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year for 2004.

I've always read the "funny papers" Dad and I would sit in the big chair and look at the funnies every Sunday morning. Late into his senior years...he would call to see if I had read the latest strip called "Gasoline Alley" our favorite. Rose is Rose is one of the favorites of mine now. I look at this strip every time it's in the paper. Moving to Byron 9 yrs. ago, I investigated the Rockford Register Star...to see if my favorite was there. So happy that it was.

Rose has been planting a garden and calls her Mom on her cell phone. She is planting a normal sized garden this year,  and Mama says, "It takes a few seasons to know your limits." Mama is getting older and knows that she has to start limiting  her gardening, but like many of us...she doesn't know when to stop. There she is in, what appears to be, a huge acreage...with rows and rows of vegetables.

We are going out to plant our tomatoes this week. I have learned, not like Mama, to limit my garden to a few plants. I bought some herbs yesterday, for my pot by the tomatoes. I don't think that I will plant basil though, after last year when the Japanese beetles were just wallowing in my perfectly grown plants. They love basil...hmmm wonder if they are Italian and not Japanese?

I know my limits--in my heart. It's trying to get my head wrapped around it that is difficult.

Awww! sweet memories. Yes, we all sat & read the comic strips also. A day wasn't begun until they were read & we shared comments about them.

Have a great week ~

The day is not complete if I miss the comics section of the newspaper. Sweet memories of our dad reading the Sunday comics to us to keep us out of the kitchen so mother could finish up the after church meal and get it on the table without us in her way. Those were a wonderful meals - always!

I think that we all know our limits, but when we do something that we love and that we've done forever, it seems we just can get carried away. I know I always think that I can do more...but later on I pay for it.

I wonder if kids today...read the comics? Maybe they are in the paper for all of us older people :)

Hi Balisha..I wanted so much to plant a garden this Spring. It wasn't to be, so I have just three plants in a very large tree size pot, and a lone tomatoe plant in another. It's ok, I tell myself. Perhaps next year. Perhaps Patient Husband knows something I don't. I hope this is true. We are getting up there and have a lot to take care of already!
Love,
Mona

p.s. I loved cartoons but neither of my parents were cartoon readers that I recall. What a lovely memory! I LIVED for the next Patsy Walker comic.. :)
