I've always read the "funny papers" Dad and I would sit in the big chair and look at the funnies every Sunday morning. Late into his senior years...he would call to see if I had read the latest strip called "Gasoline Alley" our favorite. Rose is Rose is one of the favorites of mine now. I look at this strip every time it's in the paper. Moving to Byron 9 yrs. ago, I investigated the Rockford Register Star...to see if my favorite was there. So happy that it was.
Rose has been planting a garden and calls her Mom on her cell phone. She is planting a normal sized garden this year, and Mama says, "It takes a few seasons to know your limits." Mama is getting older and knows that she has to start limiting her gardening, but like many of us...she doesn't know when to stop. There she is in, what appears to be, a huge acreage...with rows and rows of vegetables.
We are going out to plant our tomatoes this week. I have learned, not like Mama, to limit my garden to a few plants. I bought some herbs yesterday, for my pot by the tomatoes. I don't think that I will plant basil though, after last year when the Japanese beetles were just wallowing in my perfectly grown plants. They love basil...hmmm wonder if they are Italian and not Japanese?
