A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Oh, what a Night!

As it got dark last night, I realized that most of the storm would happen while it was dark. My imagination was working overtime all night. The storm started out in the afternoon and by nightfall it was roaring through our town. The wind sounded like a freight train... some of the time. I could hear tapping on the skylights above me. Little pellets of ice were in the mix. I kept turning on the yard lights, only to see the snow blowing every which way. Most of the time it was blowing in a horizontal fashion. The weather people kept interrupting TV shows....about every 15 min. We decided to go to bed and watch TV from there. The wind was getting worse and the weather guy was saying it was going to pick up after 9 pm like maybe 2-3 inches an hour. I saw some flashes of lightning to the north. We decided to turn out the light and the TV and try to go to sleep. We had a very restless night. I got up a couple of times to check outside...especially when I saw a huge flash in the sky. I don't know what that was, but it woke me up. I looked out the front door and saw the beginning of a big drift. It's going to be a job to get us shoveled out today.
The snow out the back was rippled and drifted across our big open yard. The woods has drifts all along the hill behind. I won't get back there anytime soon...so no pictures. The snow drifted up the windows on our deck. What a job that will be. We can be thankful that our power stayed on. There are so many worse off than we are. I just heard on the radio that there is a 12 foot drift on one of our country roads. Well, the worst of it is over and now the clean up begins. It looks like the sun is trying to peek out right now. I heard that the groundhog didn't see his shadow. Can Spring be far off?

This afternoon...We were waiting for the guy we hired at the beginning of the winter, to come and plow us out. Joe was sort of antsy...didn't want the stuff to freeze in the below 0 temps tonight. We were both on our computers, when I heard something outside. I went and looked out the window and here was our little neighbor, Bryce, shoveling his way up our walk. The drifts were almost as tall as he was. I opened the door and told him to just do a little bit at a time...rest in between if he wanted. He told me that he would rather get on with it and finish. It was such a job for him. His cheeks were rosy and I could see his breath when he breathed. Joe got dressed and went out to start the snow blower...to help him out a bit and to get the snow that was blown up against the garage door. I really didn't want him to go out and do it...he has to take care of his back since having back surgery, but he just did his thing. When I looked out again, Bryce and his Dad were there, helping Joe. His Dad's machine broke down, so he finished up our driveway and then took our snow blower home...to do his. Thank God for our wonderful neighbors. Joe found out that he can operate the snow blower without hurting his back. He said, "If I can get through this...I can do anything." The guy we hired...never showed up. So, here we are all shoveled out and ready for what Mother Nature deals us.

Oh my! You really do have a lot of snow. We missed the snow for the first time this year but got the wind during the night. My electric went off twice. First time at 1 a.m. for about an hour, came on for about 15 minutes and back off again at 2 a.m. until 3:30. The house was beginning to really cool off. We have a wind advisary until 4 p.m. today. I thought the roof was coming off the house. They said on the news the interstate was closed due to big trucks off the road and cars. This weather is really strange. I hope you can dig out and you both are o.k, warm and have plenty of food in the house.

Wow! You all really got a mess of it. We were lucky in this southern part of Ohio. The rest of the state was hit with terrible icing and farther north the snow like you got. It rained all night here then started blowing sounding like a bunch of banishes this morning and now snow is coming through. One good thing that old ground hog will not even get out of the den today. LOL! You both stay safe and do not over do the digging out.

Glad to hear you are ok and that you didn't lose power. I can hardly remember who is where so it is good to see posts of people checking in with weather reports. You sure got a lot of snow.

Spring will be here before you know it and this winter weather will be over.

Have a nice day.

Looks like you had a storm like we had here in Maryland last year. We dodged this storm. Our temps were above freezing all night so we just got lots and lots of rain. Please stay safe and warm and remember spring is on its way...really it is.

It looks like you got hit hard! Today will most likely be a miserable day in N. Illinois as everyone tries to dig out.

Glad to hear your electricity stayed on. Try to stay warm.

Oh what a night is right Balisha! I didn't get much sleep, lights flickering, wind and lots of snow. We spent the day shoveling out and the streets are still not in very good shape.

Take care Balisha and stay warm. We are having rolling outages that is really causing more harm than good. I agree--spring must get here soon!

That is scary. High winds and flurries here in the woods. I turned on all the out door lights to see what was going on.
Bitter cold today.
Take care, warm and be safe...

What a beautiful picture of a snow drift. I didn't know that they had such a beautiful pattern. But, then ask me how many snow drifts I have seen in my lifetime and I could probably count them all on two hands :-)

Oh dear, we have been hearing such horror stories about the storm. We still have not heard from Howard's brother in Portland Maine.
We have been watching the news about Egypt...and I finally left that and came back to the computer.

We have been having terribly high winds...lots of accidents...over turned cars and big rigs.
I went to the mall today...and it was blowing pretty hard...lots of branches down...but it wasn't as bad as it was in the morning. At least we have a roof that won't likely blow off! :)

You really did get hit hard. Joe needs to be very careful. Goodness!
