I was a girl scout back in the 40's. I used to pull a wagon with my cookies in it. I had regular customers. No one took my list to work to sell them for me. I always wanted to be the top seller, for there was a prize for the top one. I never quite made it. When I became a freshman I stopped being a scout. Too much competition in school activities and homework...trying to get good grades.
I had the pleasure of joining with the scouts again, when my daughter became a brownie scout. Our school didn't have scouts, because of the shortage of leaders. A friend and I volunteered to lead a troop. Our troop was so big we had to hold meetings in the school gym. It was a great experience for my daughter and me. I went on to work with the local leaders on programs for the whole town. These women had been scouts and leaders as well. We had fun sharing our memories and stories.

The cookies will be delivered at the end of Feb, or the first part of March. We had visitors last year, when they came and I let the kids take them home. I hope we don't have to share this year...I love those mint ones :)

We very seldom see any Girl Scouts out here in the hills. I am not even sure if they have a Girl Scouts Club here anymore. I see references to the Boy Scouts in the local paper once in a while though.Their cookies are so good. I like the Thin Mints too.
Mmmmm, I love the mint ones, too. We have not had anyone knock on our door to sell GS Cookies for many years. Sometimes my husband has happened to go to the grocery store when they had a table set up out front. He comes back with one of each kind. Some years we missed the sale completely. Saturday I went on-line and left a message that I would like to be contacted about cookies. I want lots! of mint ones.
So many memories. I, too had a wagon (borrowed) to deliver my cookies with. Door to door sales and then deliveries for many evenings. I, too had troops both when I first moved to this area and when my girls were younger. You are right, those girls all have moved on, but so many will come up to me and re-introduce themselves when I am out.

It's been years since I ordered GS cookies -- I used to love the Samoas.
I was never a GS--for one year I was a Brownie, but I don't remember selling the cookies, although I probably did.
They usually have a table set up at our local mall. Maybe this year I will stop and buy a few boxes.
I go for the Thin Mints myself. Haven't seen any GS yet. They usually set up a table at Walmart. Hugs Patti
We use to have some girls in the neighborhood that came by every year. Now you can get them at the mall where they set up tables. My hubby usually orders them at work from one of his co-workers. Thanks for stopping by and leaving me that sweet message. :)
I know that some communities don't have girl scouts.We didn't have scouts in my previous town and when I moved here we didn't have them either. So many Mom's are working today, so things like girl scouts go by the wayside.I think that every girl should be given the opportunity to be in scouting. Maybe Mom's could work and take on a troop together, so the burden doesn't fall on just one.Maybe teen age girls could help. I was a YTeen leader, when I was in high school.As for selling cookies in a mall or grocery store setting...It's probably much safer for them to do it this way and not have the kids going to stranger's doors.Things have changed so much since I was in scouts. I loved selling Girl Scout Cookies over 50 years ago! In fact I remember dreaming the words "would you like to buy some girl scout cookies?" because I had said it so much. I love the little pads of forms you filled out so that people could order. I loved walking the streets of my safe little town in upastate NY first to take the orders and later to deliver the cookies.
