A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

My Little Canning Jar

This little canning jar, with a screw on bottom was given to me, by my friend Nancy. It was a birthday present and it was full of jelly beans. The jelly beans were in the jar part and the bottom had holes all around for the jelly beans to fill up. I kept that jar full for many years...jelly beans, M and M's, gum drops etc. I went in for my physical and blood work...found that my triglycerides were very high. I had to stop eating so much candy. Since I had no will power, the little canning jar went into storage. I had a sale at my house before marrying Joe. We were combining two households and some things had to go. This little jar was so precious and brought me so many memories...on a stressful day...the candy would comfort me, having a day care in my home...I popped a few jelly beans, my 1st husband's cancer...I kept filling and emptying the jar. It sat on my kitchen counter through all the joys and problems in my life. How could I sell this treasure? So, into the box it went again. When I opened the box. after marrying Joe, I had to decide what to do with it. I wanted to stay healthy and not eat so many sweets. I filled it with buttons...not quite what I wanted. Then an idea came into my head....hens and chicks...I would fill the jar with potting soil and plant my hens and chicks around where the candy had been. It's been out in the garden for a couple of years. I bring it into the garage in the winter, but during the rest of the year it sits on the corner of the front garden. I'm glad that I kept it...every time I look at it I think of my friend Nancy...and candy!!

What a cute idea. It looks a little like a chicken feeder:) I've used them as bird feeders, filling the jar with seeds.

I used to paint country scenes on old chicken feeders. Good idea using it for a bird feeder.
