We got our Church ready for Lent yesterday. Everything is clean and fresh. The Altar is done in the color of violet or purple. Flowers were removed and in their place....vases with curly willow branches. The little containers holding the ashes were on the small table next to Father's chair.
The quiet rituals of Lent and Ash Wednesday – the ashes on the forehead done the world over – are important. We will try to slow down in this modern, hectic world and find the time for reflection, to hear the voices inside us and around us. The rituals are important... consecrated palms used last year on Palm Sunday were kept, then burned on Tuesday evening. Those ashes will be placed upon the foreheads of any who enter today. This is not a strictly Catholic tradition. our Church will have services three times today and anyone, member or not, can come into the Church for this ceremony.

My sister-in-law who is a Dominican nun brought us ashes today. I was always so embarrassed by them in high school. Weren't we silly? Hope all is going well with you. I cannot wait for spring! Love your new look. Will try to visit again soon.
hugs, Sue
Hi Sue,
Hope things are going well for you.
People sometimes say...there's dirt on your forehead.
