Bear with me....just another picture of this beauty....before she starts to fade. It's a foggy day here in the northern counties of Illinois. I remember a Sunday morning just about like this. It was softly raining and really chilly. Snow was piled on each side of the road. Our kids were on a cruise, and I had volunteered to feed their cats while they were gone. I got up and dressed and left the house before our breakfast. Luckily, I took my phone. There is a little hill in our road as you turn to go to the right. The street wasn't icy in front of the house...nor was the driveway. I started up the hill, which is in the shade, and started to slide. OH, OH, big mistake...leaving the house so early. There were two other cars sliding around in the same place...and before you say "WOMEN!" they were men. The man across the street got out of his sideways parked car and told me to slide over to the side of the road...easier said than done. The car just wouldn't cooperate. Finally, he and another man pushed my little car over and then they could try to control theirs. The first man started to move his...sideways and then the 2nd man started sliding. I decided then and there that I would call Joe. He came out with our big car just breezing by the two. He guided me around the corner and I parked it. I wasn't driving until the ice melted. He drove me up to his kids house and we fed the cats. When it was time to go back home...(I couldn't tell this tale without telling you about Joe's trouble) Joe was bragging about his "all wheel" drive big car. He decided to go the other way home. Down a steeper hill. I sat there with my mouth shut (for once) We came to the hill and that big, all wheel drive, car started sliding....we slide past our friends house...slide to the end of the road and we thought that we would slide right into our neighbor's driveway and house. Luckily, we got some traction just in time. We crept up the street to our house and after that harrowing trip...went in and shut the door on the outside world. ....until it thawed.
Well, today isn't icy...just foggy. I have to go to Church and take a casserole for a funeral lunch. I always hate it when the weather is gloomy and there is a funeral.
We have a "giving tree" at Church..we take a tag and buy a present for a person in our town nursing home. I grabbed one on Sat. and found out the the woman wanted a pretty sweatshirt. I'm going to paint on a navy blue sweatshirt...it has to be there by Wed. I'll show it here...if it turns out.
Yesterday, after posting the poem about the bird's prayer...we were sitting at the table, eating lunch, and a huge hawk was sitting on our little birdhouse by the deck. He had a little bird in his clutches and was ripping it apart. I know that they have to eat too, but not in front of me...please.

I've had some harrowing experiences on ice, as well, and I'm with you -- in the house with the door firmly closed is best on an icy or uncertain day. :) Eeww on the lunch time view!
Well, Balisha, I know it is not nice to laugh at other people's troubles, but I couldn't help laughing while I read your story. Husband said, "What's the matter?" Me: Just reading another one of Balisha's posts. I could honestly "see" it all happening as if I were watching a movie. Couldn't help but chuckle, thank you for that. And, the hawk - well here's hoping next time he will get his lunch as a carry out, or, as our British friends would say, "take away".
Ice is the worst. Nothing will run on it.
Your amaryllis is just gorgeous Balisha.
Sure enjoyed your story. Been there..done that..and bought the t shirt!
I'm glad you made it home safely! I had interview last Wednesday in Geneva, and was supposed to meet some garden blogging friends in downtown Chicago. The trip to Geneva was harrowing enough with the blowing snow and icy roads, and I stayed put after getting home. I missed meeting my friends, but your post reminds me I made the right choice staying home after making it back safely. I really, really dislike driving in snow, and ice is so much more dangerous.
Your positive attitude is infectious Balisha, good for you finding the humor in such a trying situation!
Oh ladies...I haven't always stayed home in bad weather...Once we "girls" had our Christmas party in a storm...I think that I will write a post about this night...Later..
