The Bird's Prayer by Balisha
When I was 'neath my cozy quilt this morning, in my bed..
I heard a chitter chatter of birdsong in my head.
I grabbed my robe and slippers and rushed right out the door..
Christmas morning's here and I had many chores.
Breakfast needed fixin'..a special one for us..
Bacon, eggs and biscuits were made without a fuss.
We bowed our heads and said our prayer to God in heaven above..
We thanked him for our home and food and a family that we love.
Sitting at the table and eating for a while..
Joe looked at me with eyes that danced and he began to smile.
He nodded toward the window...he wanted me to see..
The birdies all were singing Merry Christmas just to me.
The cardinals and the juncos and finches two by two..
Were sharing food with sparrows and jays that were so blue.
A smile came to my face..a sight before my eyes..
The birds were looking up into the very cloudy skies.
It looked like they were praying and thanking God above..
For nests, and houses and bird baths and birdseed that they loved.
This Christmas, when you're eating the first meal of the day..
Say a thank you for the birdies when you bow your head to pray.
They bring us so much pleasure when they come into our yard..
We give them care all winter and feed them...it's not hard.
They really don't need much to hold them through the storm..
Some extra food for energy to keep them oh so warm.
When summer comes around and you're in your cozy bed..
The sound of birds so cheerful will flutter to your head.
You'll be repaid a thousand times for the tender care and love..
That you gave those little creatures, a gift from God above.

I think this is one of your very best poems and the picture goes right along with the words. I love reading your poetry. I don't know how you do it and do it so well. This is just so pretty and so true.
Thankyou, Judy. They just pop into my head. I have to write them down or (scribble with abbreviations) quickly...so I don't forget them. Somedays there's nothing there. Other days whew! My head's spinning.I never wrote a poem before this blog.

Yes, our bird friends deserve our love and prayers. I have worried so much about the birds here after 3 days of zero-degree temperatures and blasting winds. Thanks for sharing this poem.
A gift from God INDEED. Thanks.
I agree, it is very rewarding to help our wild birds survive these bitter days.
