Once I was out in the rain...gardening. Oh, no, you say.....what will the neighbors think? At that time...I didn't give a hoot, because I had a very busy life and couldn't wait until tomorrow. We were removing the sod from between the sidewalk and where the evergreens started in front of our house. My husband was at work, when I looked out the window and decided to go for it. Donning my very best rainy day clothes, I went out to start removing the sod. People drove by and stared at this crazy lady...out working in the yard in the rain. It was a soft, gentle rain and felt good on my skin. It was cooler than being out doing this on a sunny day. The earth was easy to work with. No neighbors came over to interrupt and ask...What are you doing? I had a chair handy...and there I sat with the gentle rain falling on me. I got the work done in good time...much less than if I had done it on a hot day...with frequent breaks for water and visits from neighbors
Remembering that day, I looked out the window at the cloudy sky this morning.. I needed to water the containers in the backyard today. Would it rain? I sat down, with my coffee, and started to write a rainy day post. I looked out the window and a soft gentle rain was falling. My life is different now...retired with all the time in the world to garden. I won't be gardening in the rain today...Mother Nature has taken that job from me. There is some digging to be done, however. Digging out the things that have been bothering me in the house. Those piles of paper that grow so well...just like weeds outside. Most of our mail is tossed, but some of it is saved to read later. You know who keeps things like that :) My chair doesn't have piles of paper nearby...only books. If I dare toss something...he will need it later. "Where's my ___?" he will say. So, I will leave his stuff alone. I said...only books? Why do we keep piles of books everywhere? I only read them one at a time. Some have been there since winter. It's time to clear them out and put them on shelves. I'll just leave one basket with books handy. Counters are another thing. As I have grown older, I tend to keep things in the kitchen "handy" not wanting to reach up in the cupboards to search for things. In the magazines, I see counters cleared. Bloggers show pictures of perfectly tidy kitchens. (Sometimes I think that the clutter is removed for photos) My counters...both bath and kitchen could use some organization. Drawers and closets need no cleaning here. That is one of my favorite things to do...keep them tidy. All this talk about rainy days brings me to a job that I really should do....the basement. I could dig forever down there with all of our treasures we are saving.
Well, the rain has stopped and now I'm in a quandary. What to do? Weeds will be easy to pull. It will be cooler out. No bugs to speak of. No one will bother me. Should I venture out....or go down to the basement? I'll let you know what I decide tomorrow.
