A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Heckle and Jeckle and My Day Ahead

Remember the old cartoons of Heckle and Jeckle? They were post war cartoons created by Paul Terry. They were mischievous magpies who tried to outwit their foes. Very clever birds, whose foes often beat them out in the end.
Here we are this morning and I am sitting here at my computer...and looking out the window at what's going on across the street. These two fellows  have been missing the early part of winter, but their raucous cawing woke me this morning. I knew that they were back. They are always paired up and like to get into trouble. They do good for us...eating carrion off the streets and highways, but a tasty bag of garbage left on the curb is often a fun project for them. Just like this morning...first one bird scouts out the bag and hops on it....feeling like it is safe...his buddy decides to  join. The two of them hop on and off ducking and diving as traffic goes by. At last it's quiet and they can get to the heart of things. One bird sits and observes, while the other pecks and tears at the bag. At last he gets in the bag and pulls a treasure from deep inside. Feeling safe...the buddy joins in. Maybe it's a pair.. the male going first. A rumbling noise is heard and the garbage truck arrives and their fun is over. The bag is collected and the birds are off to their next stop.I like to call them Heckle and Jeckle.

Has boredom set in? Is that why I'm here taking pictures of birds in the garbage?....No, I just enjoy watching their antics. Early on in my life...there was no time for bird watching. Sure, I fed the birds, but didn't have the time to really observe them. One of the joys of retirement is that we have time. Time to follow our interests and really study things. When I get up in the morning, my whole day is ahead of me. If I don't have plans...I can do pretty much anything I want to do. I don't have a routine, so much as the desire to do many unplanned things. The unplanned often are the things that make my life so interesting. As I sat here this morning...I didn't know what my post would be about, but here came the birds and set my mind to work
.
The day is cold...the ground is white. We are awaiting snow from the storm in the middle of the country. We aren't getting as bad a storm as our neighbors to the west have had. Even so, Joe cancelled an appt for tomorrow...we don't like to take chances and drive if we don't have to.We had breakfast...I had a bowl of  Bob's Red Mill 7 grain cereal. This variety reminds me of Wheatena  that I used to have at my Grandma's. I have a hard time finding Wheatena...so I tried this one and I like it even better. A bowl of this really satisfies me until dinner at 2. They have several Bob's products at our local store. Everything I've tried is good. So with breakfast over and my post for today finished...I have a day where I can do anything I want. Right now I have a stack of clothes to go downstairs and plants to tend to.
So, have a good day. Maybe I'll be back later.

Hi Balisha...I remember Heckle and Jeckle and I had to laugh when you asked if boredom had set in. I spend a lot of time looking out my windows at the antics of the birds in my garden. They're always up to something out there. Last evening I watched in fascination as about two dozen Robins ran around my front yard looking for insects and bugs. Lets keep enjoying our birds!

Your day sounds wonderful, Balisha. I can hardly wait to be able to get up and have the whole day ahead of me to do whatever I want. I would enjoy watching the Heckle and Jeckle antics, too.

I can remember eating Cream of Wheat when growing up. My every other day breakfast is old fashion oats with chopped apple and some raisins. So muddy and want so to get outside and chop winter weeds
will have to wait and more rain coming in.

Sounds good. I have always had a routine and more and more I am finding I cannot always keep to it (especially when the grandchildren come) and all life's other doings. I am not finding it an easy transition but trusting God for peace in it.
