A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

What To Do On a Rainy Day?

Yesterday was so dreary. I had things to finish outside, so I gathered my things and started out the door...when the heaven's opened up and it poured. Thunder, lightening, and rain, so I made an about face and returned to the house. Thinking of my to-do list, I decided to bring some color into my morning. I gathered the peppers in the basement fridge and proceeded to make Joe's favorite meal...fried peppers. He was at a meeting in the morning and would be home in time for dinner. Just enough time to fix these peppers. This dish was one of the many delicious meals that his grandma used to make. I have already posted the recipe, but it you want it, let me know and I will post it later.

The recipe was put together and the cover added for a nice quiet simmer.
While this was cooking, I got the sewing machine out and decided to hem his pants...UGH! One of my things that I put off, because I don't like to use the sewing machine. We marked the pants a couple of days ago and I hemmed them. When he tried them on...they weren't right..so I would have to do it again. DOUBLE UGH! I got this job finished... and all the while, I kept running to the kitchen to stir the peppers.
I went to the chair by the window and watched the birds for a while. Both feeders were full of birds...cardinals, titmice, nuthatches, woodpeckers, sparrows, finches, chickadees and 1 junco... all made a visit yesterday. The new seed must be successful. Everyone is eating suet. They are impregnated with meal worms. At this rate those suet blocks won't last long. We haven't had any doves since the end of the hot summer.I kind of miss seeing them sitting on the railing waiting their turn at the feeder. A very polite bird.  The front of the house was covered with box elder bugs ...when it was hot out. Now they are nowhere to be seen. I wonder where they are? Probably under the siding on the front of the house...holed up for winter. The trees in our yard are bare now and this morning it is foggy and dreary. You know, sometimes I like days like this...I tend to want to be outside when the sun is out and it's warm....days like this will find me content to stay in the house and get some things done. This is a great day to clean the kitchen or some drawers or a closet. My windows are free of draperies...just lace valances and blinds in some rooms. I have the blinds pulled to the top to bring in more light. I like to sit at my computer and gaze out the uncovered window and watch the seasons change. I guess I had better get busy...we haven't had breakfast yet. The breakfast of the day will be bacon and eggs. Our one big breakfast of the week. Gotta go!

Hmmm, box elder bugs. That's a new one on me. I will Google it. I'm making chili today in the slow cooker. We still have leaves. I think they must be right at their peak. Our neighborhood has many sugar maples so this is a delightful time. I need to go clean out the two tomato plants that came up as volunteers. You surely are making the most of your day. Peppers look good. This fall I heard and read of more than one gardener who said their tomatoes didn't do too well this summer, but the peppers just went wild with majorly high yields.

I found Balisha's post about Joe's peppers. It surely makes a colorful dish. If anyone else is interested go to

We are practically neighbors, so of course we had the rain, too! I had planned on taking a walk with my camera to capture the trees changing and some of the decorated houses, but it started to pour! After a dry summer I am always happy for rain though. I wish I had been as productive as you! The peppers look delish! And I could watch the birds forever. You remind me of my neighbor who knows all the names of all the birds. She has bird feeder everywhere, too. They are fun to watch.

Very dreary today, too. I hope to get something done! ;-D

XO,
Jane

Hi Barbee..Thankyou so much for looking up that recipe. I don't know why I didn't think of it. They were delicious and there is another meal left. I think peppers are really good for you, but then all that olive oil...hmmm, I don't know.

Hello Jane,
\It was one of those productive days. There are more days...that I like to curl up with a good book and have a cup of tea. Me with my cozy afghan tucked in.
