A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

I'll Have a Peanut Butter Sandwich....My Little Boy Said.

I have to give credit for this picture and idea to Better Homes and Gardens. Monster Lips

I was just checking around to see what new treats people are making for Halloween and this idea popped up. Two green apple slices filled with peanut butter. Then you stick in candy corn to make it look like teeth. I think kids would love this on their lunch plate....and how healthy is that?
On the subject of peanut butter...I had a little son who loved peanut butter. He wanted it in his lunch bag everyday. I would ask, in the morning, what do you want today...tuna, lunch meat, egg salad...etc.? He always said...peanut butter. I worried (there's that Mom worrying again) that his diet wasn't giving him all he needed in nutrients. My macaroni  and cheese, hot dog and peanut butter boy. Since raising my own kids...I have found that lots of kids enjoy these very foods. I think that I made the mistake of not encouraging my kids to try new things right from the beginning. Instead of giving them a sampling of broccoli, or squash, or other veggies...I simply handed them something that was easier and they would really enjoy. I would say, "He won't eat that....I'll fix something he will like..."  If kids think that broccoli is a treat...they might eat it. Well, today...peanut butter is almost considered a healthy food. My doctor said that he was getting everything he needed...not to worry. Now he's a strong man and didn't seem affected by his childhood diet. In fact...he's a vegetarian...and he wouldn't eat green things!

That brings back memories from reading some of Gladys Tabor's books. She used reverse psychology on Jill's and her children. She told them they weren't old enough to eat spinach, that it was: "for adults, and you aren't old enough". I bet it worked.

I remember that too. I haven't got my old Gladys Tabor books out for a while. I like to read them over and over. Have a nice day today, Barbee...

Balisha, I did the same exact thing!
Mac and cheese, wieners stuffed with cheese, taco's, and tons of peanut butter sandwiches on WHITE Wonder bread!! It had to be Wonder Bread and they had to wear Keds shoes so they could run faster and jump higher than any of the other boys. Oh well, like yours they grew up just fine.
I honestly did not fix fresh veggies very often. We did the best we knew how. And..we made them happy. I think we did good.
:) No memories of being forced to eat something that made them gag! :) Yes, I would maybe try more veggies if I had it to do over..well, maybe. :)
Hugs,
Mona

You have reminded me of this delightful woman - my books need to come of the shelf also.
Hopefully all is well as emails and calls begin to come in this early morning...

My kids loved their macaroni and cheese too. We worry but they turn out just fine. LOL! Those apple lips are so cute!

Haven't been to blog in weeks, hope all is well with you! It is crazy snowing in WV only a few inches here but up to 2feet in parts of the state. Dad is doing a little better he is in a nursing home, still not walking but gaining some weight back and getting stronger. He was in ICUs for 6 weeks and in hosp for 2 months.. It's been tough... Have a great week...
