I'll Have a Peanut Butter Sandwich....My Little Boy Said.
I was just checking around to see what new treats people are making for Halloween and this idea popped up. Two green apple slices filled with peanut butter. Then you stick in candy corn to make it look like teeth. I think kids would love this on their lunch plate....and how healthy is that?
On the subject of peanut butter...I had a little son who loved peanut butter. He wanted it in his lunch bag everyday. I would ask, in the morning, what do you want today...tuna, lunch meat, egg salad...etc.? He always said...peanut butter. I worried (there's that Mom worrying again) that his diet wasn't giving him all he needed in nutrients. My macaroni and cheese, hot dog and peanut butter boy. Since raising my own kids...I have found that lots of kids enjoy these very foods. I think that I made the mistake of not encouraging my kids to try new things right from the beginning. Instead of giving them a sampling of broccoli, or squash, or other veggies...I simply handed them something that was easier and they would really enjoy. I would say, "He won't eat that....I'll fix something he will like..." If kids think that broccoli is a treat...they might eat it. Well, today...peanut butter is almost considered a healthy food. My doctor said that he was getting everything he needed...not to worry. Now he's a strong man and didn't seem affected by his childhood diet. In fact...he's a vegetarian...and he wouldn't eat green things!
