A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

My Favorite Blues

I'm joining with Claudia and her followers on A Favorite Thing today.Claudia has a blog called Mockingbird Cottage. http://mockingbirdhillcottage.com/  She came up with the idea to post a picture of our favorite things on each Sat. If you would like to join in...please pay her a visit. Hers is a blog where she posts almost everyday. We followed her through a most sad time recently, when she lost her beloved dog. Her blog is so special...I've really begun to "know her" through her writing. Today, you will find links to many other readers treasures  to click on and read about.
The above picture is one of my favorite things. When my dear mother-in-law passed away, we were going through her things and trying to decide what to do with them. She had this collection and others above her cabinets in her kitchen. Blue was her favorite color and she decorated each room with that color. She was a tiny red head who loved garage sales, old cemeteries, granite ware, crafts of all kinds and her family. I was lucky enough to be able to shop with her at many garage sales. She could spot blue in an instant and would make a bee line to the item. We would go to old cemeteries to find nuts, acorns, and pine cones for her beautiful fall wreaths. She and I got along like mother and daughter. She was such a great influence on my kids...we all have our special memories of her. I remember her everyday when I look above my kitchen cabinets and see her blue collection.

Hi Claudia...I do treasure so many of her things. Her Christmas tree was loaded with special ornaments that my kids enjoy today.
As for the Obama picture on my sidebar. It's my way of promoting him and what he believes in. I'm thinking that we are so diversified in our thinking as bloggers.....there's room for all beliefs.
Thanks for hosting this very fun Saturday project.

Thanks Margie and Barbee...I really appreciate you two faithful friends. A day seldom goes by that you don't read and many times leave comments. I think that we get to know people through these comments. We all lead busy lives and we find that there is still time to read a fellow bloggers post of the day or week.
I can't say enough about you two.

It's such a lovely collection. I notice that I don't have a thing from my grandmother that belonged to her. I inherited 200 francs when she died and I bought myself a plain gold chain, that I always wear.

I love blue too--I have a lot of blue cobalt bottles that were found in my ancestor's home--nice to have things that are remembered from a time before.

Hi Babajeza,
I think that you did something very nice, by spending the money on something that you could wear close to your heart. A necklace is just perfect. Thanks for visiting...Balisha

Hi Deb,
I think lots of Grandma's kitchens were made warm and cozy by their utensils...we collect them today to bring back that warmth in our own homes. Thanks for paying a visit...Balisha

Hi Dottie,
I've put plants and flowers in some of my pitchers too. I first put in a glass container, so that I don't damage the metal. They come at a very high price at antique stores now. I've done some thrifting too and have found some real buys.
Thanks for your visit...Balisha

Hi Sally,
I really didn't think of it as a tribute at first. I loved the way they looked in her kitchen and wanted the same look in mine. Now, as I am getting older...I do think of it as a tribute. I appreciate her more today, and marvel at the way she led her life. Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment.

Hi Judy,
She collected cobalt blue bottles too. They were given to another family member. I remember that she had some blue bottles in her windows to catch the sun.Where do you have yours displayed?
Have a nice Sunday.

You're so lucky to have such warm and comforting memories of her, Balisha. That blue is so lovely. Easy to see why she liked it so much, and why you would choose to keep it for her.
