Hot Fudge Sundae Day

Today is hot fudge sundae day. Oh, how many of these tasty delights have I had in my very long lifetime? My love affair with hot fudge started with my job at Lochner's Pharmacy when I was in high school. We had a soda fountain at the back of the store, and we could have ice cream FREE. I would take a coffee cup and put a scoop of ice cream in it and cover it with fudge sauce. The fudge sauce was always on...heated in an electric metal container on the back shelf. A spritz of whipped cream and a cherry. I had one most everyday that I worked. I never got tired of them. It continued with the dairy queen. My kids were small and we would take them for ice cream in the evening. It was always something that I could use that day for bribing them into behaving :) I didn't make them at home in those days....so it was such a treat. The kids would have dipped cones...not knowing what they were missing with all that fudge. Then my mother in law gave me a recipe for a fudge frosting that could be cooked a little less and used for topping for ice cream. YUM! I started making fudge topping...just a little...for homemade sundaes. Now I could have my sundae with butter pecan ice cream...not just vanilla. In times of happiness, stressful times, celebrations, and just a craving for chocolate,....these have been my go to treat. I have a friend, Nancy, who shares that love of a good sundae. We would go to lunch and eat a smaller portion of lunch, so we'd have room for a sundae. We still do that. It scares me... that now, in my "golden years" that I don't have the same cravings for hot fudge sundaes. This hot, hot, summer would normally find me eating ice cream. I have lost my taste for it...somewhat. So today on hot fudge sundae day...I WILL celebrate with a good sundae. I have all the makings for it....just have to get that taste for it back. The more I look at that picture, the more I think it looks good. Maybe this afternoon...

Oh, WOW, get thee behind me, Satan!! (I'll pretend I didn't see the picture.) If I had worked there, I would have been big as a barn.

I too love ice cream! In fact, I'm going to go buy some right now. You have inspired me!
