Polish Tragedy

I woke up this morning thinking about the tragedy in Poland. If you haven't heard there was a plane crash that took the life of their President... Lech Kaczynski. Among the dead were Poland's army chief of staff, the navy chief commander, and heads of the air and land forces, who were all making the emotional trip to honor Polish officers slain by the Soviet secret police in 1940 in and near the forest of Katyn in western Russia. Can you imagine? I have been reading about this tragedy and they say that the Polish government will go on. I've had the pleasure of knowing quite a few Polish people. I had a dear friend in a town where I used to live. Many people in that very town.. hired Polish people to take care of their elderly family members, so they could stay in their homes and not have to go to a nursing home. For the most part they were women. They were a kind and proud people and always went back to their homeland when they were done with their jobs. A lot of them went to Chicago on weekends and came out to Hampshire during the week. I was acquainted with many of them. They loved to cook and bake and keep house. I was introduced to their wonderful pastries and learned some of their customs. My favorite Pope was from Poland....Pope John Paul II. A movie that Joe and I like to watch over and over is Karol A Man Who Became Pope. It takes place in 1930s' Poland. It chronicles an extraordinary and moving journey through 50 yrs. of history. The movie is done so well and shows much of Poland and her people. It portrays John Paul as being a most compassionate and loving man. There must be a tear in his eye this week.

Yes, Balisha, I did learn of it. It is almost more than the mind can comprehend. Too bad they had all those important people in the same plane. I worked at IBM here in town for a brief time one year. I noticed that their "higher ups" never flew together - in case a plane went down.

I saw this on t.v. and online. It is such a horrible tragedy. I am going to check out that movie about the Polish Pope. I will ask Bob if he has ever seen it. I am loving this spring. We are supposed to have weather in the high 70s all week. I don't remember if I ever told you but we finally saw Amelia and we liked it.

I should be, but I'm not. We had a wonderful burst of spring and all the flowers and trees bloomed, but now they are wilted. So sad. We have had 1/2 our normal/usual amount of rain. The place is too large to water with a hose. Not sure what I will do. For one thing, I need to find some help, I think. Glad you could go out and do some things. Something I have wondered: when you scatter wildflower seeds among the trees, do you rough up the ground or just cast them on it as it is.
