A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Sunflowers in My Garden

GARDEN OF SUNFLOWERS

A garden of Sunflowers beckoned to me -

Come join us, my lady, and joyous you'll be!
We're large ones and small ones, some dainty and fair,

And even some delicate to wear in your hair.
We follow the sun, swaying slowly with care,

We have a new dance that with you we will share.
I couldn't resist them, so dandy a sight!

So off I did go in my Sunflower flight.
What a glorious time, right up til twilight,

Then I had to bid my Sunflowers good-night.
So happy were we, a long day filled with fun,

Upon leaving I kissed them, each and every one.
So tender the moment, as I turned to leave.

With eyes brimmed with tears, could I truly believe?
OH! It was so true!! I then knew it to be!!!

I had to smile, 'cause they were winking at me!!!!

Sunflowers...just the word makes me smile. How can you not love the big sunny flowers? Many different varieties to choose from. Yellow, brownish, rust, orange are the colors of this favorite. Sunflower lore says the sunflower brings blessings of the sun into your garden. If a woman wants to conceive, she should eat the seeds. Even if it did not work, at least she would be eating healthy snacks while she waits. Psst, there is a better tried and true method to conception, but that is for another time. Sow seed every three weeks for a succession of flowers throughout the summer. Sunflowers are excellent as a cut flower. Before the flowers open, the green buds are delicious sautéed in a butter sauce. Many of the sunflowers listed produce edible seed.
For cut flowers, harvest when center is tight and dark and no petals have curled back. With floral preservative, flowers should last 7-9 days. Pollen-less cultivars will last longer in the vase. If flowers droop, re-cut stems and plunge immediately into warm water. Drooping flowers usually indicates water is being blocked in the stems.
Let some of the seed heads mature and leave in the garden for the birds. I cut mine down before surgery. I thought, why leave these in the garden and have to look at them all the time? I didn't think that I would feel good enough to fool with them. Oh, well, one less plant to clean up after. Hubby says we are leaving the woods the way it is now. I look at the woods and ask myself, "Can I look at that all winter? It will be hard, but I'll give it a try. You may find me trudging out there...through deep snow...cutting things down with a machete.

Ahhh, cute post! I wouldn't worry about cleaning up the woods; the wildlife will like it better the way it is.

I agree with you that sunflowers are wonderful. They really do make me smile, and so does the news that you are doing so well. I pray that your recovery continues. Blessings to both of you.

I love your sweet poems. I wrote a book for children...but never knew what to do with it...so it sits in my drawer. One day I will pull it out (if I can find the darned thing) and send it to you. I think you would like it.
I bought sunflowers for my kitchen a few days ago...and I love them. I usually don't buy them. They were just half opened...and it looked as though they had been asleep and were just beginning to wake up...so they came home with me. Every morning I look to see if they are a bit more "awake" and I think they are! Sunflowers...lovely!

I love your poem, Balisha, and I love sunflowers, too. They are just fun flowers. I have never been able to grow them but since I had the trees cut down will surely try next year. My son loves them and has them in his backyard every year. I hope you are feeling better every day. I know you are looking forward to Joe handing you those car keys! Love, Judy
