A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

What's on Your Front Porch?

Easter will be here in just a couple of days. There is still time to put together a pot of flowers to put on your front porch to welcome your guests. Here is a short list of plants that tolerate the cool temps that we in Northern Illinois will be having.

Pansies
Violas (Johnny Jump-Ups)
Annual Dianthus
Stocks
Tulips (started, available at garden centers)
Daffodils (started, available at garden centers)
Hyacinths (started, available at garden centers)Read more: Spring Container Gardening:

Just get a large pot and fill with potting soil. I like to put the largest and tallest plant in the center then put the smaller ones around it. If it will be up against a railing or wall....just put the tallest in the back. Just plop already blooming tulips, daffs, etc. in the soil and voila...you have a colorful decoration for your porch. You might put a bunny or chick in the container as well. As the season progresses and the plants start to show some deterioration...just swap them out for other blooming plants. I have even used some house plants on my porch. I love ivy, so one year I grew ivy all winter...just so I would be able to use it in my pots. By the time spring came it was nice and long and trailed beautifully. Whatever you use....flowers are a nice welcome for your Easter company, a delivery person, mailman, or just you and your hubby going in the door. I'm going to do something on my porch today. I really want to get it all ready for summer, but then it would probably snow.

Balisha, your porch plants are beautiful..and so spring looking! I'm afraid my porch looks way too much like summer!
BTW--another comment about the author I mentioned, Susan Wittig Albert. She is originally from Illinois. I thought you might like to know! :)

Oh, Balisha...TOO much is on my porch.
But first..I must thank you from the bottom of my heart for the sweet poem you wrote for me. I left you a message but I was concerned you may not come back to that particular post and find it! It was SO very good of you to do that!! Patrick is the only one who ever wrote anything like that..and ...I just sat staring at it. I simply could not believe you took the time to do that for me! Thank you!
I usually check your blog every day but..I tend to get wordy..as you can see.. :)
Just a "Thank you" didn't seem enough...and I am hoping you know how much I mean it!!

My porch...well..I bought roses today. Two yellow and a pink. I am looking for AMERICA but so far have seen none. I have so much planting to do that it makes me feel a wee overwhelmed..but I have told you that already. :) My porch is overdone I know..but then.. :) not sure if you have noticed..I sort of...overdo everything!! Ho hum...
Have a wonderful weekend and a Happy Easter!

Great idea for pots on your porch. We love porches and like to share ideas of how to decorate them. I like how you can then transcend them into summer pots also!

Thanks to everybody for reading this post. I did get all my "summery" things out and "did" the porch. We love to sit there and watch the world go by.Hopefully it will warm up. Have a great Easter.

Your pots look very pretty on your front porch Balisha. I've been meaning to spruce up my small stoop this spring. Thanks for the reminder! ;) Happy Easter!
