Easter will be here in just a couple of days. There is still time to put together a pot of flowers to put on your front porch to welcome your guests. Here is a short list of plants that tolerate the cool temps that we in Northern Illinois will be having.
Pansies
Violas (Johnny Jump-Ups)
Annual Dianthus
Stocks
Tulips (started, available at garden centers)
Daffodils (started, available at garden centers)

Just get a large pot and fill with potting soil. I like to put the largest and tallest plant in the center then put the smaller ones around it. If it will be up against a railing or wall....just put the tallest in the back. Just plop already blooming tulips, daffs, etc. in the soil and voila...you have a colorful decoration for your porch. You might put a bunny or chick in the container as well. As the season progresses and the plants start to show some deterioration...just swap them out for other blooming plants. I have even used some house plants on my porch. I love ivy, so one year I grew ivy all winter...just so I would be able to use it in my pots. By the time spring came it was nice and long and trailed beautifully. Whatever you use....flowers are a nice welcome for your Easter company, a delivery person, mailman, or just you and your hubby going in the door. I'm going to do something on my porch today. I really want to get it all ready for summer, but then it would probably snow.

Balisha, your porch plants are beautiful..and so spring looking! I'm afraid my porch looks way too much like summer!

How lovely, I will be going to the farmers market Saturday, hope to find some pansies ... which I will put in a pot in my rooftop garden.

My porch...well..I bought roses today. Two yellow and a pink. I am looking for AMERICA but so far have seen none. I have so much planting to do that it makes me feel a wee overwhelmed..but I have told you that already. :) My porch is overdone I know..but then.. :) not sure if you have noticed..I sort of...overdo everything!! Ho hum...

Great idea for pots on your porch. We love porches and like to share ideas of how to decorate them. I like how you can then transcend them into summer pots also!
Thanks to everybody for reading this post. I did get all my "summery" things out and "did" the porch. We love to sit there and watch the world go by.Hopefully it will warm up. Have a great Easter.
I have pansies only on my front porch. But hopefully soon I will have other pretty flowers.
Can you imagine....I put some silk flowers in a pot on the deck...I wanted something red...do you think anyone will know??
