A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

This is a picture of a limb that is broken off way up high in the boxelder tree. There are several limbs like this one.
This is some of the mess of branches ...still attached, but hanging down in front of the border.

I'm late in posting today. We had a really bad storm here last evening. Lots of wind, 2in. of rain, lighning like you wouldn't believe. We had sirens and weather radio alarms going off non stop. We went to the basement with our shaking Laddie. We live in a wooded neighborhood and today all you hear are the sounds of chain saws. There were trees and huge limbs down all over town. We lost power about 7 last evening and it came back on at 3:30 am. We are the lucky ones. A nearby town will be without power for maybe 3 days. Everyone is out helping their neighbors. Our next door neighbor was here with his chain saw early this morning. We had part of our pretty Ash tree come down in the front yard and big parts of several trees in the woods border. We took care of the Ash tree today and will wait till we can get someone to go up in our trees and take care of the back. We didn't call today, because there are so many people who are in dire straits and need a tree trimmer more than we do. As you can see from the pictures...we have nothing to complain about. No real damage, but hard for people our age to clean up in the hot humid weather we are having. We cleaned up what we could and the rest will wait til later. It's overcast now, but no weather warnings. We took a ride around and some roads are closed because of debris on them. Some buildings, barns and many trees are on the roads.
We listened to the Cubs in Chicago. The tornado warning sirens went off there and the field filled with water. The crowd had to make their way through litter strewn roads away from the ballpark. Many said they had never heard the sirens go off at Wrigley Field. What a year of weather for the Midwest.

What a storm and the damage is sad. I hate to see mature trees get damage like that. Such a shame. I'm glad you & yours are okay.

Hi PG,

I would have taken some pictures around town, but I didn't want to get in the way. It seemed heartless to be taking pictures of people working so hard...cleaning up the trees that they loved. So many lost trees that they have planted and watched grow for many years.

Hi Balisha, I am glad your damage was not anymore than what you had. I get scared to death when there is a storm because I have many very tall trees surrounding my house and no basement. I love the trees for shade but they can be scary, too.

Thanks for your concern, Judy. I know just how you feel.We had huge elms in my old yard. They towered above the house. We worried during every storm...that one of them would come down. It never happened, but we had lots of branches come down. You're right about the shade...and they keep the house so nice and cool.
Where do you go if there is a weather warning in your area?I remember when people had storm cellars...like the Wizard of Oz.
