A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

The Little Restaurant

These are the three sisters who own the Cafe.

There were three of us at lunch today. Mary, Shirley and myself. We met at our favorite little restaurant in Byron, because this little cafe is closing in a couple of days.Mary called and asked if we wanted to meet there for one last time. This place has been open for 6 1/2 yrs. It has become a favorite meeting spot for so many in our town. A perfect spot to meet an old friend. Men enjoy this place as much as women.
It's such a friendly spot....you always meet someone that you know. As you come in the door, there is an ice cream freezer...very busy spot in the summer...specializing in out of the ordinary flavors of ice cream. A double cone with two different kinds is a simple pleasure on a hot evening in August. There are tables and chairs and a bar that you can sit at. We met at 11:30 and I selected the turkey artichoke with pesto panini...a 1/2 sandwich with a cup of chicken tortilla soup. We celebrated by ordering our desserts first. A slice of warm apple tart with a scoop of vanilla ice cream was my choice. Mary had the coconut cake. When it came time for Shirley...she said that she hadn't chosen one. What will power that woman had....sitting there watching us eat our dessert. The menu is full of different paninis, sandwiches, specials of the day and a couple of soups to choose from. Flavored coffees, lattes etc for the coffee lover. Each lunch comes with fruit or veggie. The veggies come with a little cup of dip. Everything is so tasty and presented so well. The chicken salad, that is always on the menu, is delicious. I noted that the special tomorrow is chili and corn bread.
We gals had a lively conversation about all kinds of things....from grandchildren, to Church, to the holidays. We stayed for quite a long time...it seemed we didn't want to leave. So many in our town have grown attached to this little cafe. It is just a little different than anything else in our town. The perfect place to meet for a scone and tea for breakfast or their breakfast buffet on the weekend. Outdoor dining was fun with music entertainment on the weekend.I have always enjoyed this place...it's immaculate, something that I find worth spending a little more.  I don't know their reason for closing. I have a feeling that they didn't do the business that the sisters expected. The prices are a little higher than the other restaurants in our area, but the ambiance is so much better. The restaurant was so busy today...I wish people had flocked to it like this everyday. I'll miss this little oasis in our little town.

Wow, I am sorry that this nice little restaurant is closing it's doors. My heart goes out to the three sisters too as they step into the next phase of their lives.

Glad you had a nice lunch with your friends.

I couldn't do this cafe justice in my description. One thing that is special is the wall devoted to pictures of three sisters. Customers have sent or brought in pictures of their own families...where there are three sisters.
There was a guest book on the counter, to sign, telling memories of customer's visits and special occasions.
I ate there one time when the owner was taking chocolate scones out of the oven. She brought samples to our table...delicioua.

Our nice little restaurant in my Byron burned down 18 months ago. For our school pals luncheon, we always went there--centrally located for all of us. We sure do miss that place!

What a shame that it's closing. It has become a family joke that every restaurant that becomes "my favorite" goes out of business. I'm the kiss of death. That has happened 5 or 6 times. Not funny to me. Glad you and friends had this memorable last get-together there. Nice post.
