A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

We Felt Like Kids Again

Conversation at 6:45am this morning. I roll over...."They are starting to line up." Joe says, "Let's go!" We dress in record time...I think 10 min. He's out in the car waiting for me. The sun has just come up and we leave the driveway.....following a couple of school buses. Over the river and into town we go. We see the flashing of police lights at the far corner. What's going on...you say? Byron's new McDonald's is open for business. We've all waited for a few months for this event. At first everyone wondered what was going in on that corner. A bar had burned down and the lot was for sale. Rumors were everywhere. What would it be? Some guessed maybe a McDonald's, but then others thought that the lot was too small. It was the talk of the town for this small community. We finally found out that it was indeed going to be a McDonald's. It took exactly 80 days for it to be built. This morning at 7...it was to open and Joe and I wanted to be there. We don't eat much fast food, but this restaurant is probably one of the best of them. They are always so clean...very important in my book. Well, today the first 100 customers would have free fries for a year. That made it all the more fun. We hardly eat fries, but we still wanted to be there. Well, let me tell you....just about everyone else in town had the same idea. There were lines of people inside trying to get waited on and the parking lot was full to overflowing with lines for the take out...which features double lines for convenience. We sat there with our mouths open. I thought that there might be a little crowd, but not like this. We went around the block and looked again. Then we drove by Burger King...two cars in the lot. We came back home and I fixed sausage McMuffins for breakfast. I'm so glad that Byron gave this popular restaurant a big welcome. Our early morning escapade made us feel like kids again.  Boo hoo...no free fries.

Now that sounds like a FUN morning even if you didn't get fries! I remember when McDonalds came to our home, my youngest was about 2 years old (she's now 23!). We went to the grand opening with Ronald McDonald, etc. and it was so much fun!
I love the Virgin Mary statue you are working on in your icon! I have one very similar in my yard and some small ones in the house.

I also love your Sammy Squirrel in your banner and your elusive hummingbird photo! We seem to live parallel lives, you and I! haha

Have a great week :)

One thing I like about McDonald's is that we always know what the food will be and what the quality will be like no matter where in the world we are. I guess the most out of the way one we ever visited (and probably the most welcomed sight) was on the far north point of The Netherlands. We had been driving the Dykes and Dunes Trail and had no picnic lunch with us. Those arches way out there were a welcomed sight. While rearing our 4 children, I hand cut many a French fry. Once we moved here to a larger town that had a McDon. I made the announcement that I was cooking no more home made French fries. If anyone wanted fries, we would go to McDon., they can make them better than I, anyway. And so we did.
