The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. Favorite Things Saturday

I've shown this before on my blog, but here it is again because it's one of my favorite things. I'm joining Claudia  http://mockingbirdhillcottage.com/  for Favorite Things Saturday. This is a picture of my mother. She always said that she didn't like this picture, but it's been a favorite of mine. It hangs right above my computer, so I can see it everyday. I did some crewel embroidery on an old piece of linen like muslin and used that to mat the picture. I like the way it turned out. My mother was a pretty woman and was always very stylish. She never had very much money to work with, but she was so talented with her sewing that she could do just about anything with a needle. She took one of her mother's dresses and refashioned it into a graduation dress for herself. She made all of my clothes and prom dresses. Later in life, she and my aunt had a business making slip covers and draperies for people. I'm afraid that I don't  have the same talent with a needle...She didn't like doing handwork...like embroidery, quilting, and such. I have done a lot of that in my day....so I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...I just use the needle in a different way.
Please visit Claudia's blog this weekend to see many other favorite things.

Balisha, your mother was beautiful! And I'm crazy about the way you matted her photo - such a creative way to frame her portrait. She sounds like a very talented woman, indeed!

Thanks so much for joining in this week!

What a charming mat you created. I'd say it is perfect for her picture considering how she sewed so much. Very pretty.

I think you have wonderful skills with the needle and thread! Your embroidery on the mat looks so pretty! Your mom sounds like a wonderful woman, talented and sweet. It's nice to see women from that generation get out into the working world using the talents they were blessed with!

Happy Saturday, Balisha!

She was so beautiful. I wish I had one of my mother when she was young. She was very beautiful my Dad told me. He called her his china doll.

Thanks for visiting and leaving your nice comment.

Hi Jane,
My aunt always worked...she had a gift shop for a long time. Mom joined her in the upholstery business after my brother was in high school. She was pretty wonderful. Thanks for the visit.

Hi Barbee,
I never thought of the sewing connection when I made the mat. I does seem appropriate.

Hi Dottie,
It sounds like your Dad really loved your Mom.

Hi Marlu,
Thankyou for your lovely comment. The matting is old and yellowed now, but appropriate for the old picture.

Hi Susy,
We were very blessed. I think that so many women in past years were skilled with a needle. Some out of necessity....and some for pleasure.Did your Mom make clothes for you?

Oh my she was QUITE beautiful!
Wonderful post about her :)

My sister keeps a picture of our mother ( beautiful when young ) on her dresser in her bedroom

My niece has just been scanning old photos and was posting them onto Facebook today and one of her faves is me when I was young. Evidently I was quite pretty then and one of my sons was blown away by the picture. LOL! Must be little resemblance now :)

Balisha,
What a beautiful picture! You can tell that your mother had style. My mother also fashioned many of my dresses and prom dresses as well. I also told her that "homemade" was better and that made her smile. Thank you for sharing your mother's talent with us. I am stopping by from A Favorite Thing Saturday and am your newest follower!

Hi Still Woods...I'm sorry I don't know your first name,
Secretly...deep inside....I always wanted a "store bought dress" I didn't realize until much later that I was so lucky to have clothes that were not like all the rest. When I started appreciating her sewing was when I needed a prom dress and she spent hours making a most beautiful dress....not like any of the others. I think that as kids...everyone wants to be the same...look the same, but when you mature you find your own style. I never let her know this.

Hi Debra,
Thankyou for your lovely comments about my Mom. She was beautiful even as an old woman. I love the comment about your son being blown away.I'm sure you are still beautiful. My nephew reads my blog to find out things that he never was told about our family. Facebook is another way to get the pictures out of family members. I go there to catch up on my grandkids....and see their latest pictures.
