A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Sweet Autumn Clematis and a Bit of Rambling

I've been babying this Sweet Autumn Clematis all summer. Giving it lots of water while I sit and water the tomatoes. We have just this one section of chain link fence left from our dog pen. It serves as a backdrop for this little "deck garden" I decided to plant the clematis...even though I've heard about it's taking over fences, trellis, walls etc. I felt that I might be able to contain it. It was kind of spindly at first. I know that clematis don't do much climbing in their first year. This particular one seemed to want to take off in the middle of summer. I wanted it to cover the fence and here is how it looks today. I really don't care if it rambles on up the deck rail...it's so pretty. Little star like flowers just cover it. While I sat in the chair watering my tomatoes...I could smell it's wonderful fragrance. A bonus....I didn't know that they had any fragrance at all. A winner in my estimation and the bees love it...another bonus.
Today is cloudy after a shower during the night. Everything is damp this morning. People are out walking by with their dogs. I put a Chem Lawn sign right in front of my mailbox this year and it has worked. We don't use Chem Lawn, but the sign tells passers by that our lawn was treated and bad for dogs to walk on. They have, for the most part, stayed away from the mailbox flowers.....although the flowers could have used a little watering this year:)
I watched the convention last night and this morning decided to put my choice for president on the side bar of my blog. This isn't usually a political blog, but being close to the election day...I felt that I wanted to share my preference. No matter who you vote for...it's so important...it's our right as citizens of this wonderful place where we live... to exercise that right. There I'm off my soapbox.
Today I'm going to buy the birdseed for the winter and also the suet blocks for those cute woodpeckers. The critters are continuing in their raiding of my tomatoes. We aren't getting any tomatoes now...they all have a bite taken out of them before I can pick them. They haven't touched the cherry tomatoes. I feel that the little creatures are suffering with the dryness this year..and have lost some of their food source. So, from this day till frost, I'll continue watering the tomatoes for the little animals that visit my yard.

I love that clematis. I planted one years ago in hopes that it would cover a stump. I guess I didn't water it enough. It didn't live.

Hi Barbee...This is probably the 3rd one that I've tried to grow. The other two were back on the edge of the woods...they were pretty far away from a water source, so they must have suffered. This one has been pampered. I read somewhere that some consider it invasive. Well, if it is...it's welcome in my fall garden. Have a nice weekend.

Hi Margie...I do love the birds. They bring me many hours of enjoyment...especially during the winter. So, I guess I'm just paying them back.
Have a nice weekend...

I am quite surprised by your choice on the side bar. I love how you care for the birds and your beautiful gardens--my two favorite things.

Balisha, I have this Clemais.
Moved it from a trellis by the screen porch to a trellis in the yard. It would have covered my porch spoon. May move it again :)
I think because my woods are so damp that it does exceptional..

Hi Judy...I have to preface this by saying that I'm not a democrat. I've voted for as many republicans. I chose him the last time.. wanting a change in our stagnant government.I thought he was brilliant with such new ideas. I worked for his campaign making phone calls on election eve. There were so many problems facing him, that now I feel that he deserves more time to get his work done.I don't always agree with him. A few of the issues that he has worked so diligently on...affected me in my past life. Going through those issues makes me want to change things for others.Education, women's issues, hunger in America etc. are all important to me. Being such a people person and a Christian...I guess it's a choice between helping people and $.

Hi Ernestine...I guess this vine can be sort of a thug in the garden. It needs a place to climb...I'll have to keep it in bounds a bit. I really wanted it in the woods, but didn't have success in growing it there.
