The Bird Bath

You might be wondering what this picture is doing here. I thought that I would show you the way I can spy on the birds. Now, don't think that I'm that crazy bird lady that you have heard about...I just really enjoy watching them doing their thing. I sit in my chair at the bottom of the deck stairs and look to my left through that little space and can see the birds while they are in the bird bath.I can do this without being seen. I have seen all kinds of antics....birds having a squabble over the bath, chipmunks hopping up and falling in, the very long bath of the robin, birds bringing their young for the first time, a humming bird hovering and dipping, all kinds of water fun for the birds.

All I have to do is fill the bath with fresh water and they come flying in. Robins strut around the yard...just waiting for me to leave....acting very nonchalant.  Our bird bath is a heavy one. They can't tip it over...it is shallow, and in a safe place near the house and water supply. Birds really don't care if the water is gunky...but I would hope that they like their bath water and drinking water to be fresh, so it is a chore that I do every day.

In this very dry weather, I would imagine that a bird bath is most welcome. Can you imagine the way it feels to a bird...to have a nice clean place to drink and bath on a hot dry day? I laid the hose in it once and just let it trickle over the top...it didn't take long before a robin came to take a shower. 

 Our neighbors have a pond next door and they get all kinds of birds...we get the surplus...the outcasts it seems. If there's a fight next door...they come over here and find a bird bath full of cool fresh water. Viewing it from my little hidey hole...I get  a splash of joy.
