A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Beetle Food...I Wonder

They reduced the price of geraniums at our store. 79 cents each...what a buy. Audra has been wanting to plant something with me, so knowing that I asked her if she would like to go to town and pick out some flowers. She was so excited and ran home to ask for permission. We got to the store and looked around at all the flowers. The red display took her eye. Lots of little geraniums...all at a special price. I told her that we could buy 10. She started picking them out...one by one. She is a good plant shopper...selecting one and then putting it back...too many dead leaves, or too limp, or no flower or bud. I told her to pick off the dead leaves and put them in the flat in the cart. She was so particular. When we got home she wanted to plant them right away. I told her that Joe was napping and that he had to haul the potting soil around to the back and fill the big pot.....so maybe we should wait until today. She was a little disappointed but forgot about it after playing a couple games of Simon Says. She has so much energy and can play forever. She does cartwheels and runs around...while I sit and get tired watching  her. When she and I were both tired...she went on home and said to call her tomorrow, when I wanted to plant.
This morning I have to go get my hair cut and then maybe we will plant the pot. I read Ernestine's blog this morning http://myjourneytomindfulness.blogspot.com/ and she showed pictures of all the J. Beetles in her yard. I know that they are in Tennessee and wonder when we will see our first ones. I'm thinking that after our last winter...the beetle problem will be huge. After I bought these geraniums I thought of last year...how they destroyed my plants. I'm hoping that I didn't just buy a nice meal for the beetles.

That's always a possibility. My daisies were food for the early stage grubs....I forget what they're called.

Good luck, Balisha!

Hello Balisha, I think you might find this article interesting. Apparently, we should plant more geraniums :)

Balisha, thank you for mentioning me. Beetles still here big time.
Have been picking them off and putting in a jar of soapy water.
Maybe they will not visit you
because they may all be here :)

That is a beautiful geranium Balisha. I love the Black leaved varieties. I have not saw and Japanese beetles here yet but it should be any day now I am sure. Nasty little buggers. Have a lovely weekend.

I hope you did not buy a meal for the beetles, too!

What a great teacher you are for your young garden friend. She will probably turn into an adult gardener because of your teachings.

Hi Margie...So disappointing to lose flowers to a thug in the garden.

Barbee...That was a most interesting article. I'll have to watch and see what happens when the beetles arrive and see my geraniums.

Hi Ernestine...That picture with all the beetles brought back memories of last year. Do they stay long in your area?

Lona...I love geraniums...but so do the beetles I guess. Are you rested from your vacation yet?

Hi Zoey...I'm just about to call her to come over. She is such a fun kid...we really enjoy her. You never know what she will say.

Knock on wood, I haven't seen any Japanese beetle here for several years. I am worried however about the warm winter and what may turn up this summer.

Oh my. I am being over run with ants already..and something is attacking my squash! Some sort of little fly in the earth..I sprayed. But they are still there and just ruining my plants.

I guess it comes with gardening.
I love geraniums..and have lots of them.
You must take a photo and show us when you are finished. HOPE...it's not just a huge meal for those beetles...we don't have them here, thank heavens!
Hugs,
Mona
