A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Redbuds

Here is my little redbud tree today. Getting bigger. I bought it at our little nursery here in town at the end of the season. I was shopping when they had their clearance sale before closing up for the season when I spotted it. There it was just a stick in a 5 gal bucket with a few of those familiar heart shaped leaves. I thought, why not, and put it in my car. I took it out to the woods and planted it...thinking that maybe it wouldn't survive, but praying that it would. The following spring the two little branches had little buds on them. A couple of days later the tiniest of pink flowers went up and down the little branches. The picture below is a view from the house a couple of years ago. There she is standing "small" in the border along the woods. Each year it gets bigger and bigger. Last year I bought another tiny one at Aldi's when they had some on their produce counter. It was $5...so I bought it and planted it by St Francis. It isn't showing any buds, but I hope that it will survive. Last year it was late in coming out.
These trees are my favorite trees. My neighbor in Hampshire had several in her "natural area" behind the shed. This area was wild and undisturbed and the little redbuds dropped seeds and tiny little trees popped up everywhere. I took one of the seedlings and planted it in my garden. Every year I wonder about my little tree and how it's doing. The people who bought my house didn't like yard work and the yard looks like it. It really hurt when I went back to see how things were doing, so I don't go back anymore. The redbud is probably doing well...the whole yard looks like a "natural area" now. I guess you shouldn't go back...the house was sold to other people and now it is theirs to make all the changes that they want. I just don't have to look at it. Now about 10 yrs later, here I am in a new house...and I've made many changes in our gardens. We gardeners all put our own individual stamp on our space. That's what gardening is all about...making your little corner of the world your home.

Your little Redbud tree is so pretty. I love to see them bloom here in the woods. I wish some were nearby in our woods. Enjoy this weather.

Balisha, I have some in my woods and I have marked them so they are not bothered as I clean the woods.
I know what you mean about going back to a previous home. The gardens are what helped sell those homes and now they no longer exist.
I brought some plants from the city home that are now in my country garden. When I drove by in the Fall they had replaced my garden with grass. If I had known this I would have brought all of my plants :)

The Redbud is a beautiful tree. I sure do miss the one I had at my last home.

I have always wanted a Red Bud tree--I love the oriental shape of them--kind of like a Ming tree (to me anyway). The dark wood with those brillant flowers--ah-hh
