A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Four Seasons of Purchases for the Home and Garden

I've thought about the four seasons in the past few weeks. I placed an order for some giant Snowdrops...just a handful for a little surprise in my driveway garden. This little garden is the first one that you see, when you come up the walk to the house...or when I drive out of the garage. I have a big rock there with a little cubby hole, where these bulbs would look sweet. I'm not ordering anymore bulbs this year...I'll just have to enjoy the ones that I have. This was my
spring purchase. Then, when shopping at a favorite flower shop...I found a pretty Ivy plant. I have those 4 new pots by Guy Wolff...just waiting for plants, so I bought a big Ivy to take apart and put in a couple of these pots. I've been doing more with my houseplants this year, because of the very hot weather. This is my summer purchase.

I always buy wildflower seeds to sprinkle in the woods in the fall. Last year I didn't do this and it wasn't as pretty this year. So, with that in mind, I sent an order into American Meadows for a new mixture of shady wildflower seeds for the midwest. Just a 1/4 lb. package. I love the little burlap pouch that they come in.....almost too cute to open. Just as soon as the leaves fall and things die back in the woods...I'll go out and sprinkle these seeds around where my statue of St. Francis stands. This is my fall purchase.

And last but not least my winter purchase. I couldn't get through the winter without a Red Lion Amaryllis on my plant shelf. I ordered a new one from American Meadows and it will arrive in Oct. just in time to plant for the holidays. I've had better luck with these than ones from the big box stores.

So, that's what I've been doing...here in the house. It just started to rain...and now it's stopped. We are to have a scorcher again today. I have to get off this computer, because my charge card is sitting next to me and the garden nurseries are all sending me very tempting information on their sales.

Gorgeous! wildflowers. Love the amaryllis, too. Our wildflowers didn't come up at ALL! So disappointed.

Have a beautiful holiday weekend.

Oh what a sweet memory your snowdrop brought to mind. Years ago I planted some and hoped they would come up and be ok here in Texas. They did and my hopes were fulfilled. Your wildflowers are so beautiful. We have to go out to see them along the highway or wherever the paper tells us the bluebonnets are blooming in the spring.

My daughter in law used to give me an amarillys for Christmas. I'd plant it after and would have a beautiful red flower for Valentine's. I have made a lilly garden, but can't remember if they bloomed this year. The Easter lillies did, but I don't know about the others.

We are expecting a "cold" front on Sunday so maybe you will get it on Saturday. It should drop our high temps from 100+ to the low to mid 90s. The weather is just crazy right now and I'm guessing I don't need to tell you that. There is a tropical storm in the Gulf now to go along with everything else.

I have to confess that the wildflower picture was taken from the place where I bought the seed. My woods is very shady, so I could never expect a show like this one. I am happy with just a few flowers mixed in with the other things growing there...
Amber...I will be thinking about you when that storm comes in. I think that the one coming is nearer New Orleans. Let's hope Katia is nice and behaves herself...if she comes to the US.

Everyone...Have a great weekend and keep cool :)

Well thought out post, Balisha. Wish I could be so organized. I love American Meadows. Most of the seed for my meadow came from them. That was a few years ago. It needs to be stripped and done over because the wild goldenrod and wing-stem have taken over.
