A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Thoughts on an August Morning

In the morning, I get a few things done right away. I just can't seem to get motivated until I get dressed and ready for the day. I make the bed, put in a load of laundry , make coffee or tea, pick up a few things from the night before, empty the dishwasher if needed, work my way back to the computer room and read a few posts from favorite blogs. One of my favorites is Ernestine's http://myjourneytomindfulness.blogspot.com/ She is about my age and keeps an online journal about her life at Woodhaven. She has a beautiful, calm, way of writing that makes me feel like I'm right there on her porch, visiting with her. Funny how many things are similar with us. Today she was commenting on deep cleaning in the spring and fall. It seems we are both in the same mood right now. I wrote about cleaning my "nest" just a few days ago. What is it about this time of year that makes us do these things? Not just this year, but every year. I'll bet I could go back in my archives and find that I was doing the same things last year at this time. I am finding that I wake up in the morning and think of all the things that I want to do. I have always loved "keeping house"..I find that my "to do" list takes longer to do now. Just a short time ago it used to disappoint me that I couldn't get it all done. I've resigned myself to the fact that I can't anymore, it's just going to take longer. I used to put things that gave me pleasure at the bottom of the list...now I'm starting to put those things at the top. I can still multi task. I find if I do a few things at the same time...it takes less time and I do get more done. Like getting a few things going before breakfast. I can get sidetracked...oh yes....I might see roses that need deadheading on my way to get the paper....a plant that is limp and calls for a shower...a few weeds in the mulch...interesting birds that need watching :) These kinds of things may cause me to forget what I had started doing inside. Before you know it, I'm tidying up the garden and the laundry has finished, the dishwasher stopped, and the coffee pot automatically turned off. When I come in the house, I may be tired and then not want to finish up the jobs I started. Well, that's the joy of retirement my friends...I can always do it tomorrow. So, if you want to read about Ernestine's life at Woodhaven...just go over for a visit and tell her that Balisha sent you.

Have a great day...

Balisha

By the way...Ernestine's daughter Jamie, has a blog too http://blondemomblog.com/

I find it so interesting to read the two different posts each day. Jamie's posts are all about a young Mom trying to keep up with two school age girls. I love reading about all the new things kids are doing today...and this blog fits the bill.

Reading about other people's lives is interesting, isn't it, Balisha.

Hi Balisha,

I, too, have always loved my homekeeping tasks. I also like to do a good cleaning in the fall -- even more than in the spring as I have probably been doing heavy cleaning all winter so it's not needed as much in the spring.

I am probably twenty years younger, but I am beginning to feel the effects of the years and can't quite do all I used to. I have always been good a multi-tasking and I am happy to read that even in my 70's I should still be able to do so.

I chuckled at your description of your walk to the mailbox, spotting little things that needed doing and by the time you got back in the coffee pot turned itself off. The same thing happens to me all the time!

I thoroughly enjoyed this post.

Have a great Monday.

Hi Balisha, Yes, fall is in the air here, too. I am already thinking of soups and comfort foods. I would love a place like Woodhaven. I am sure it is so beautiful in Ernestine's corner of the world. That picture of the little shoes and the big ones is so cute and such a pretty birthday boy! Your flowers are still beautiful. Mine are drooping and on their last legs of summer. A great picture of you, too. I have always loved your beautiful head of hair. I am cursed with fine, thin hair and will trade either you or Margie! We are having some wonderful weather. I love it.

I think this is why we all love blogging so much. Not only do we see their rooms, learn what they like to cook and eat...what their hobbies are, we love sharing in their joys and like encouraging them in their times of trouble.

I have been cleaning a little, too. I'm not fast, like I used to be, so it takes me a lot longer. Just about the time I get the last room cleaned during my spring cleaning, it's time to start all over again. :)
Thanks for stopping by..

I too cannot get going until I am dressed and ready so drink tea and read the newspaper after breakfast before I get ready.

Meant to say I guess you are watering your front garden and we are looking at your neighbours across the street.
