A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Finally We Have a Baby!

We've waited so long, it seems, for the four eggs to hatch. Mama and Daddy Robin have made the nest and have made countless trips to the nest after laying four eggs. I think that the color of Robin's eggs is one of the prettiest colors there is. They seem so small...for a little creature to emerge from. These pictures are from the internet...I didn't want to disturb them yet, because Momma was waiting out by the drive with a worm in her mouth. I guess we will have to sort of give up the porch for a while, because Robins just don't come near, when humans are around. The wreath, where the nest was built, is just hanging with fishing line and moves every time the wind blows. I know that I will worry about our new babies...every time the day is windy. It might even cause me to lose sleep.

Moving around the yard, I heard, at the peak of the roof, squabbling sounds. Two chipping sparrows were having a tussle. Up and down the side of the house just picking on each other. Being so nasty. Finally, after quite a long time, one of them fell to the ground and landed on my foot. I think he was stunned. He sat there for the longest time...and I hardly took in a breath. There we were bird and woman...almost not breathing. Finally, he cocked his little head and then did it again as if to say..."Who are you?" Startled, he flew away. I'm sure he was scared to death, but I was delighted to have been a safe place to land for a tiny bird.

These encounters make my life in the garden so special. My eyes are always looking for things to see in nature and when something unusual happens...I'm so entertained.

I'm on the lookout for snakes on these warm days. Every time I reach my hand into some greenery or the watering can or a bucket...I'm on the lookout. I'm seldom without my deerskin gardening gloves and usually wear a long sleeved shirt just because of these inhabitants of my garden. I guess that we can learn to coexist with them ...I just wish they didn't startle me so.

Hi, Balisha, and thanks for leaving such a nice comment at Meadowsweet Cottage. You're so very lucky to have a real life robin's nest on your wreath! And they've hatched, woo-hoo!

Our redbud actually bloomed for the first time this year and I was so excited. Of course, their heart-shaped leaves are pretty special by themselves.

Looks like we have plenty in common! I'll stop by again so see how your new babies are doing. I hope you come by my place again :)

Hi Balisha, it is so exciting to have baby birds around the garden. The mother is so protective they will actually dive at you if you get too close to the babies.

I know what you mean about snakes. I'm not afraid of them, but it is the "startle factor" that bothers me. Hope all goes well with the babies and you get to watch them fledge.

Aw, sweet! This makes my heart feel better.

We had a baby robin tragedy two days ago. Now that the crows have seemingly recovered from West Nile and are back in droves, they're back to their old tricks. One of them raided a robin's nest on our windowsill, and all three babies are now gone. I sure hope yours stay safe.

I love this. When I saw the name of the post on my blog, I thought you had adopted a child. lol. It was very hot here last week now we are in the 50s. From the 90s to the 50s. What a change. I have Tater this weekend. He is giving me a run for my money. lol. We had a water fight in the bathroom while he was in the tub last night with water pistols. He thought it was the greatest thing ever! The walls had water running down them. Oh well, he won't be young but once and I want to enjoy every minute. lol. I hope you will do a post for me or have hubby do those wonderful peppers! I would love to feature him or you. Have a great week.

The llittle birds are safe this morning. I'll take pictures when they are a little bigger...right now all you see is a little fluff in the nest.

Hi Judy...Joe and I are working on something to send to you. Probably the first of the week. It sounds like fun..B
