A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. A Sea of Blue

I planted Scilla under the statue of St. Francis. I had just a few bulbs and thought that they would look pretty in the little pocket between the stones. I love this little bulb plant. It reminds me of a few years ago... when a house in the town that I grew up in, had a yard full of Scilla. Every spring the lawn would be full of these little blue flowers. Even after I moved away, I would come back each spring to see this pretty sight. It was a wooded lot with an old house...the lawn was no more. It looked pretty sad the rest of the year, but in the spring it was breath taking. Joe and I were out for dinner on Friday night and took a different way home. He was driving along and not really looking at the lawns. I spotted something out of the corner of my eye...it was blue. I told him to back up, if he could. I had seen something that I wanted to check out.
He backed up and there it was...a sea of blue. We parked the car and sat and just took in the beauty of the lawn. I wondered how long it took to get the whole property covered with these flowers. Each little flower has a bulb underneath. I didn't have my camera with me, but vowed that I'd come back to get a picture of this spring beauty. Yesterday afternoon, I went with my camera and took some pictures. Now I'm thinking of planting little pockets of these bulbs here and there in my woods. I wonder how long before whoever lives here, after me, will be able to look out the window and see a sea of blue.

Wow, how beautiful is that!I cannot believe all those blue bulbs.Maybe that is what I need to plant in my woody part of the yard too Balisha. I was going to fill it in with daffodils but that plan went array when I could not dig into the ground far enough because of roots etc to get the bulbs planted. These would be smaller and a person could add more every year. Yours look so pretty at his feet.

Aren't they the most intense blue! I love them. I have been trying to get 'Spring Beauties' (Claytonia virginica) going in our front yard. It has been very slow going for 20 years. Some of the old houses in town have lawns spilling over with them; I want mine to be like that, but I may not live long enough to see it. There were more this year, though. These are white and/or pale pink. They are tiny bulbs, too, but very expensive.

How beautiful! I ordered some blue bulbs from Breck's a few months ago....I can't remember what for sure, but I think it may have been these. I hope so because they are lovely!

I think that a lot of people are in search of the true blue flowers in the garden. This color is certainly that. The picture shows just a part of the lawn at the old house. The flowers covered the whole yard.
These little bulbs are perfect for naturalizing. They say you can just toss them around and they will multiply. I'm not so sure about that...I think they must be covered with soil. I love the combination of yellow and blue...these would be pretty with daffodils. I intend to plant a few by St. Francis too. Thankyou for your comments...Balisha
