A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Earth Day and a Confession

This is the symbol for Earth Day.

I have a confession to make. I haven't always been careful with my recycling. I usually do recycle things in the kitchen but once in a while, if I'm in a hurry or tired...I toss a can or bottle into the garbage bag. I have hidden things in the garbage that could be recycled. I don't always save foil or paper that could be used again.I sometimes leave the lids on jars and caps on milk bottles.  It's purely laziness on my part. I always feel a twinge of quilt, when I do these things.
I was at Church the other day and the younger members of my committee were discussing recycling. They all do so much more than I do to recycle. They have recycled for years....hauling papers and cans away in their cars to recycling centers... in the early days. They are getting their little kids involved too. I sat there very silent...knowing that I should be ashamed. One gal said that her elderly neighbors were so involved in recycling that she was proud of them. I vowed right then and there that I would make a conscious effort... from now on to do more recycling. I will never put a can or bottle in the trash bag again. I'm going to check the rules from our refuse company and do it right. I'm thinking that it may take a little more time, but as my friend at Church says..."It becomes a habit." Our youth have been taught  this way in their schools from kindergarten on...we oldsters have to learn to follow their example. So, next year when Earth Day rolls around...maybe someone will say that they are proud of me.

Good for you, Balisha! It does think some extra thought, planning, and effort, but I think it is such a good, responsible thing to do. Our service is a private company and they do not take glass, nor plastic grocery bags. We stuff the bags into one bag and take them back to the store when we shop on First Wed. of each month. Glass goes into a mop pail in the garage just outside the kitchen door, then it has to be taken to a collection bin not too far away. Sometimes our local son takes it with him when he takes his own glass. Our service company does take paper, cardboard, and numbers 1 and 2 plastics. All of that really adds up, at least it does for us. I compost kitchen scraps and shredded paper from the shredder. I think the most difficult is find those little triangles with the plastic's number in them. Sometimes they are so small I can't read them even with glasses.

Barbee...You're such a good example. Just like the gals at Church. I'll think of you each time I start to toss a can into the garbage. Balisha

Balisha, please don't feel ashamed! No matter how much we do there's always more we could do, and it can seem overwhelming at times.

If everyone was as conscientious as you are the world would be a much better place, so please don't beat yourself up for those moments when your energy is flagging or you're not keeping up with those energetic young ones. xoxo

It's never too late to begin this diligence, Balisha. Kudos to you for making a renewed commitment to recycling. :-) Sue

I am so guilty about this trash thing. I am not even sure there is a recycling facility in my area.I need to check into this. I try to reuse a lot of things but not like I should either.
Have A Blessed Easter.

Balisha, I'm proud of you just for making the pledge to do this. Although I've always done some recycling when we moved to our new home in PEI I really had to pull up my socks. The recycling, compost, garbage program here is very strict and even though I considered myself a recycler I had a lot to learn. As your friends say though, it becomes habit after awhile and not such a difficult task. Best wishes, Marguerite
