A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Bulbs for a Cause

These bulb packages caught my eye at Walmart. Anything I see in bright pink makes me think of the fight against breast cancer. In reading the label I found that $.30 for each pack sold goes to the Susan G Komen for the cure. It's the time to plant bulbs, so I thought that I would buy these to help find a cure. I checked the bulbs and they were firm and not damaged in any way. There were several to choose from. Alliums, tulips, daffodils, crocus etc. Many in shades of pink. This picture of the double daffodil named REPLETE are actually a peachy shade of pink blending into a creamy white. There are 12 in a package. I'm going to plant them in a cluster next to the big rock in my garden. They bloom in early spring.

These alliums are named...AFLATUNENSE. They are the same as the picture. There were 8 bulbs in a package. I'm planting these in the background all together. They will get 24 - 30 inches tall. They bloom in late spring.
I think these will make a nice addition to my garden. They were $5 a package. My other bulbs haven't come yet. I hope to get them soon, so I can get them in the ground. I don't always follow the directions in when to plant. I plant them when I am comfortable outside...not on a cold blustery day. I don't usually plant them as deep as they say, so mine don't always come back a second year. We don't have many squirrels and bunnies...so they are safe planted not quite so deep. If they come back...wonderful, if not...I'll have to just buy more.
It's supposed to get down to 30 degrees this weekend. I brought my amaryllis and Christmas cactus in yesterday. They are in the basement just waiting for buds to come.

For some reason the genus Allium intrigues me. I have the native Nodding Onion, Garlic Chives, Allium Moly, Egyptian Walking Onion (a.k.a.Top Onion), and Drumstick Allium. I keep thinking I would like to group them together somewhere. Might get that done someday... maybe.

I love alliums too. I see them in other people's yards and think that some day I will plant some. So, what am I waiting for...this is someday. I think they would look nice all grouped together Barbee. Lona, I found them at a Walmart in another town...ours didn't carry them. The bulbs look really healthy. Balisha

I am going to look for these, too, the next time I go to Walmart. I have been bringing in stuff from the yard today and repotted some stuff to bring inside. It has been in the 60s here in the daytime and 50s at night. I like the cool weather.

Balisha, I plant like you. Seems in the past the squirels ate most of the bulbs. I am not going to plant anything els :) Hopefully I can live up to this. Then when I am at Walmart in a day or two I will probably look these up :)

I don't know if all Walmarts carry these. I worked so hard today...see my post tomorrow to see what I've been up to. Balisha

I never think about bulbs in the fall, when, duh, that's when I should be thinking about them. And then in the spring I just sigh and regret that I didn't think about it in the fall.
