A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Am I the Only One Who Never Heard of Dipladenia?

While taking care of Molly this past week...I was also asked to water the flowers at her house. I have been admiring the flowers from across the street for so long. When I would run over to visit for a bit..I would be craning my neck to see just what these beauties were. They looked like a Mandevilla, but in shrub form. I could have asked, but they are always busy and I didn't want to bother them. Well, this week, I got up close and personal with this plant. There is a regular Mandevilla planted in the urn shown below. It is the pinker one. The Dipladenia is the red one...it doesn't vine. The combination of the two is very striking. I checked it on the internet and found out that they are in the same family. Dipladenia Rio... is an exciting plant that adds a touch of the tropics to the garden. It produces large, showy, tropical flowers all summer long. Has more rounded, glossy leaves than a Mandevilla and has little to no vining tendencies. Looks fantastic in a pot on its own or in a combination. Great for hot, humid climates. Hummingbirds love this flower!
The above picture has a Knockout Rose behind it. Lots of red for the corner of their house.
They don't overwinter well in the house, so next year I will be on the hunt for this pretty plant. I read somewhere that you can buy them at Lowe's. I will be bringing my large pot to the front of the house soon...to get ready for new inhabitants.

Hi Barbee...I just went across the street to visit her. She sure is a tail waggin' dog. She just wanted me to love her so much. I think she is glad her family is home, but she misses me. Her owner said that I could bring her over here for a day anytime I wanted...so she will be back and more pictures. What are you up to this Labor Day? I just came in from planting some anemones in my side garden. I don't know why, but I just love these flowers. I hope they do will in my dappled shade. have a nice day today. Balisha

Anemones are beautiful and one of my favorites, but I have never had any. I'll be interested to learn how yours do in the dappled shade - keep us posted about that if you can remember by then. Beautiful day here, too. Had a very long telephone chat with out of town son (much enjoyed) and will be going over to local daughter and son-in-law's home later today. They want to do some grilling. Their two teenagers will be there, plus friends of the granddaughter will be enjoying the little home pool after she gets off work. It's her last day as lifeguard at one of the city pools as it closes for the season today. I'm sure local son will be there, too. Their Golden Retriever will be in social heaven. Wonder if they will let him get into the pool.

Hi Balisha, glad you figured out what they are! They're so pretty. We don't have enough sun here for them, but I have them planted in pots in clients' gardens. One of my clients goes away every weekend in the summer, and they're a great choice since they're pretty drought-tolerant. The client LOVES not having to water them every day, even this summer when it got so hot.

Well, I'd never heard of it, but it's pretty enough that I won't soon forget it. :)
