A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

The Weekend

The weekend started with our going to Mass. After Mass, Joe felt a little better and we invited some friends to go out to eat dinner. We ate at an Italian restaurant in a nearby town. Don't ever order linguine prima vera. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan and Joe ordered the linguine. We decided to share. The linguine came in a soup bowl with a big spoon and a fork. We asked for another bowl. Now our table was loaded with dishes and silver and baskets of bread. I transferred half the linguine into the extra bowl. Now to eat this creation. No matter how we tried...we couldn't get the linguine to twist into a mouthsized bite. It kept flipping around and hanging down. It was cooked al dente...too al dente! It had a mind of it's own. There was no sauce to help hold it together...just a bowl of broth and spring veggies. I cut it with a fork and then tried to pick it up...no good. We finally struggled through the meal...eating as much as we could with spoons. Never again. I'll stick with my eggplant Parmesan.
The weekend was started and the next day I went to Grandson Collin's birthday party. We were celebrating his 13th birthday. How fast he has grown. The party was fun and ended with a few taking a trip down the road on his new skateboard. Not me...I like terra firma. He and his brother, Tyler, are spending the rest of the week at my daughter's lake house. Hope they have good weather, so they can have fun on the lake.
Joe is still nursing a hurting back. The first epidural doesn't seem to have helped, so maybe he will try a second. Hopefully he can get relief without surgery. We have the dedication of the Grotto coming up on the 12th.
We spent yesterday here at home, watching all the Memorial Day doings on TV. Joe went through the whole war in the Pacific on TV. I heard booms, guns, and other war sounds coming from the TV set all afternoon. I was busy in the kitchen. We were going to have grilled chicken. I fixed a seafood quiche, and a green salad with a homemade sweet pepper vinaigrette and asparagus. I put some spears of asparagus on top of the quiche in a spoke pattern. Just as the grill started cooking the chicken, we had a downpour of 1 inch of rain in a short time. The gutters were overflowing it came down so fast. Here we sat in the house watching the rain, while the grill cooked away. First chance, Joe got out to the grill and brought the chicken in. We finished it in the oven for a few minutes. This meal tasted so good. Later in the day, we were both hungry for chocolate. I whipped up a one layer devils food cake and frosted it with chocolate frosting. This satisfied our craving for chocolate. All in all...it was a nice day at home.
Today, the sun is shining, and I am waiting for the bushes to dry off. I think that I will trim our evergreens in the front. They are growing fast and I want to give them a haircut. This is usually Joe's job, but he really can't do it this time. I can see the grass out the window. It has grown by leaps and bounds...since the weekend. Our guy will be here today or tomorrow to mow. A Robin family is out hopping around the front yard. The worms should be plentiful this morning. Gotta go now.....have a great day.

Good morning Balisha. Had to laugh at your pasta story. I know it wasn't much fun for you, all that food you couldn't eat:) I don't care for undercooked noodles either.

I cannot believe you got an inch of rain. West of town we got none, zero, zip!!! My Dad had none north of Rockford. Maybe this week...

Your weekend sounds like a lovely time. :) I hope Joe is feeling better soon -- bad backs are horrible.

Hi Balisha, Your party sounds great and I enjoyed all the pictures. I hope Joe's back gets better without surgery. You all sounded like Tater trying to eat pasta. He cracks me up with it but he loves it. I mowed the yard today. It was 90 degrees and so humid my hair was soaking wet. I am exhausted tonight.

Balisha, I just caught up reading some of your past entries. Your plants look wonderful. This is my first Spring at the edge of the woods, so it does not have the look I want. I have had the same experience with food I cannot eat. I cannot use chop sticks and my son frequents Asian places.
Always a problem trying to eat with a fork!!

The dish that I was speaking about couldn't be eaten with any utensil. It was watery and the pasta was not done...the vegetables were only half cooked.I was looking longingly at my 1/2 eggplant parmesan on Joe's plate :(

We think that Joe will probably have another shot. He's heard good results with 2 or 3 shots. Trouble is...he has to wait for a couple weeks in between. Weeks of pain.
