Snow Influencing My Garden Selections

Has this snowy weather started to make it's way into my thought process? Will the snowy days influence my plant selection this year? It seems that I am drawn to the color...white. Some artists believe that white is the absence of color. I think...if it comes in a tube or paint can...It's a color. As I sit here this morning, drinking a cup of Raspberry Zinger tea, I start to think about this. I've been thumbing through garden catalogs and have started to make my selections. I use white flowers as a spacer between colors in the garden. There are some flowers whose bright color needs to be toned down a bit. White is the perfect accent to put next to one of those "loud mouths." I may order this white hosta...called White Christmas. I think that it will look pretty in the evening as it starts to get dark. I need more white in the woods border. I was checking Bridgewood Gardens http://www.bridgewoodgardens.com/ yesterday for different hostas. Actually I was browsing online and searching for a mini hosta for the Grotto at Church. I think that I may order Blue Mouse Ears. Then I turned to this beauty. It is of medium size....has white leaves margined with green and grows to about 24 inches. It may find a place in my garden this year. I ordered all my hostas from Bridgewood, when we redid the gardens surrounding the house. I was very pleased with them. They were crisp and fresh, when they arrived (at the right time for planting) They have all survived and multiplied.
Last year I started marigolds inside. It was successful. I planted French Vanilla Marigolds. I was really happy with these except for the fact that when the Japanese Beetles were on them...they left the bloom looking sort of dirty. This year I bought the Snowman Hybrid. Do you see what I mean about winter influencing me? These should be beautiful. Large, pom,pom, white, double, ruffled, bushy plants. They are taller than the last year's flower. Have sturdy stems and I can use them for cut flowers. I am thinking that I will put them by the mailbox. They are tall enough to plant with the Stellas. Well, the snow is just a dusting like powdered sugar on a brownie, the tea is gone, and I have breakfast to fix. Soon I will plant these seeds and see what happens. Maybe we won't have those pesky Japanese Beetles. Am I delusional?
