A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

A Gardener's Lament

It's early May and the weather is cold,

Too early to plant is what I've been told.

The garden centers have beckoned to me,

Come in and shop and you will see..

Petunias, and marigolds and so many more,

Just waiting for you here at our store.

OK... I fell for their annual plea,

And bought a few plants for my hubby to see.

Coleus, impatiens, and more tender things,

To add to my seedlings waiting in the wings.

At dawn's early light they go out the door,

At night they come into the garage once more.

In and out, my hubby just chuckles,

He waits for my will to give in and buckle.

Will I continue it until it's so warm,

Or will I just wing it and plant them one morn?

This goes on for me every year, it seems,

A garden of color is in my dreams.

I guess I'll continue to move them you see,

My dream will come true..it's a small job for me.

So early this morning they went out the door,

And tonight they'll be in once again on the floor.

In another week the weather will break,

I'll plant them all ..a slight chance I'll take.

The day that I plant will be cozy and warm,

Baby plants will be safe and free from all harm.

If the weatherman says there's frost in the air,

Never fear I'll have blankets for my posies to share.

This will go on till the day I'm not here,

The tender young plants will have nothing to fear.

I'll move them and care for them each one by one,

Till my days in the garden are finally done.

The nurseries do tempt you to buy and never beware a northern clime .. which is why I saved pop bottles to protect my young seedlings in the cool of the night. Love the bunny!

I feel your pain! In Colorado, I have had snow into June, so do not plant tender items until the end of May. I usually have my ground ready and some seeds in by now, but for the past 5 weeks we have had rain/snow each weekend and 70's and 80's during the week when I am at work (today it is 78), but this weekend's forecast is for the mid 60's and scattered showers. I am keeping my finger's crossed.

Balisha, I love your poem. Sounds like me in other years. This year I am behind because of building and the mud. I do have a dozen pots ready to be planted and have moved cuttings of a number of plants to the country.

I have resisted the urge to buy more plants from the stores. BUT.....as I look around...many of the plants in the stores are outside and don't appear to be able to be covered in any way. Isn't that risky for them?? And if not, WHY CAN'T I PLANT THEM YET???? It's so frustrating.
Just wait, just wait, just wait.....aaaarrrghhh

Thanks to all for stopping by. I just can't resist the beautiful, tender, plants. This morning we put them in a wheelbarrow, so I could move them out easier. Now if I can resist temptation and not buy more that the wheelbarrow holds.
Elenka...I have wondered the same thing.
