What will you pay to make your birds happy?

A Birdseed Wreath
We just had to get out of the house yesterday. It was bright and sunny though cold. Bundled up we headed for Rockford. We go to a "stockup store" once a month, so that was our first stop. We had a couple of other stops to make and used a gift card that was about to expire. We stopped for lunch at a buffet. The food was good and we ate with lots of other people who had the same idea. We love to go to this restaurant. We can eat what we each like, and the fun of it for me is to see all different kinds of people. I guess that you could call me a people watcher. I love sitting in airports, malls, etc and just watching people. I love sitting by someone with little children and yesterday was sweet. A tiny girl in a high chair was making eyes at me (do they say that anymore?) She would blink, play peekaboo and then look away. I think she was about 2 yrs old. Cute! Well, we finished the meal with....hubby, an ice cream sundae and me....a big sugar cookie. We groaned, when we got up and made our way to the car. We had one more grocery store to go to, but decided to change our plans...we were tired and wanted to just get home. "One more stop please"...I said. I wanted to get a peanut feeder for the birds. I have noticed these on different blogs and thought it would be a good addition to our feeders. I ran into the store and walked (all the way to the back of the store...isn't that always the case? Everything I need is at the back of the store. No peanut feeders! I was so disappointed. I checked and asked...looked for a substitute, but nothing. So, I decided that I would look at another store later on. Leaving the bird department a bag of seed caught my eye. Nine pounds of "birdie delight." All nuts and sunflower seeds. We had just purchased a deluxe assortment of nuts for us...why not treat the birds? I looked at the price...about $11.oo. I stood there and started to rationalize this purchase. We would get different birds to watch, I didn't spend the money on the feeder, we don't spend money foolishly, we are in the house a lot this winter....oh shoot...go for it, Balisha. I took it up to the counter and put it in the bag. Driving home, I thought that maybe it was a silly thing to do. I carried it into the house and when the groceries were put away, I checked it out. and found it full of nuts...peanuts, pecans, almonds and some seed. it looked pretty much like ours. I decided to use my regular seed and just sprinkle a cupful of the new seed on top. The new seed is out there and so far we have seen cardinals, juncos, sparrows, wood peckers....the same birds that were here yesterday. I don't know what I was expecting..and I know that I haven't given it enough time to draw new birds....but for the moment "our birds" are having something new and we are having fun anticipating that rare bird who may stop by for a pecan.

Good Morning,
Thought I'd direct this comment to all of you. it does take time for birds to find your feeder, but once they do...look out! It is something simple that brings joy to people young and old.

What a pretty feast for the birds!

Hi Racquel....I think this wreath could be made from lots of seedy things. It looks like the seed ropes that you buy for pet birds. I think they are made of millet.
