The Story of Blue

Once upon a time there was a house by a little woods. A couple lived in the house with a manicured yard. The back yard was huge and trees were needed to make the yard look beautiful. The man of the house brought home a surprise...a beautiful, small, blue spruce. The lady of the house was delighted with the small tree...shorter than she. The couple named the tree "Blue" The little tree thrived in the yard.She grew and grew. Sadly the lady of the house passed away. Blue was sad and shed some of her blue needles. The man of the house would stand on his deck and look off to the left and be reminded of his wife...when he looked at Blue. As time went on his grief lessened and he was lonely...he needed someone in his life. He met a woman named Balisha and they were soon married. Standing on the deck...he told her the story of Blue. Balisha loved trees...especially blue spruce trees. She took a small wooden rocking chair and placed it by the big glass doors. She would sit there in the morning and also in the evenings and look to the left at Blue. The tree was huge by now, but Blue didn't look well. Her needles took on a purplish cast and some of her branches dropped. The couple was very concerned about the tree. Throughout the spring and summer they fed, watered and pampered this special tree. After all this care she seemed to be recovering, but wasn't as pretty as she once was. The man thought maybe they should cut down the tree and replace her. Balisha asked him to just let the tree be for another season. She was thinking that everything in this world is not perfect...especially in nature. They let Blue stay for another summer. She survived and started growing again. She continued getting her special care. The seasons changed and it is winter now. She is healthy again though not as perfect as before. At Christmas she wore a beautiful dusting of sparkling white snow. Being so close to the deck, she is a resting place for hundreds of birds. Balisha comes to the window in the morning and little creatures peek out from Blue's branches...
cardinals, finches, sparrows, juncos, blue jays, nut hatches, doves, chickadees, and countless others. Balisha fills the feeders and the little creatures take cover in this wonderful tree. Blue stands tall now..a memory for some and a home for many.
