A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Sunrise in our town.
Yesterday we were going to the Klehm Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. It rained. Thought we could go today...It's raining....so plans have been shelved for a time. We have had such great weather, but I was busy with Dr. appts. etc. before and couldn't work it into my schedule.

Yesterday I did a lot of "house things" Today I wanted to "play" I have been taking a watercolor class. My goal is to paint flowers. I have used oils for years...but not my favorite style...watercolor. Our first class was really fun. Our instructor gave us each a board with paper taped to it. We had a blob of three different colors to use,big brushes maybe 2 inches wide and a tub of water. We dipped our brush into the water and put quite a bit on the paper. Then dipped our brushes into the paint and spread it on the paper. We kept spritzing the paper with a spray bottle of water. We then held the board up and let the paint run and kept the board moving until the paint was distributed and looked the way we wanted it. We then took a salt shaker and put salt on it. Salt makes the paint explode. Saran wrap was the next tool. We were each given a piece and sort of crumpled it and laid it on the painting. We had to leave our work in the classroom, because she was sure we would want to peak and it had to dry first. Well I didn't do flowers yet, but it was fun. Only 4 in our class. We are meeting again tomorrow and we will continue on. My little grandsons are visiting next weekend and maybe we will do this. I was going to pick up things at the gardens to stamp on my painting. I looked around here and found a few leaves and some other things. I did two paintings this morning and feel that I am getting the hang of it. Maybe I'll take a picture of my final project and post it here...if it doesn't look like a mess. Painting is very relaxing....a good hobby for the winter.

Sounds like you are enjoying the Watercolor class. What a great hobby for the winter when you can't garden. :)

I would only say...go for it. I started oil painting classes at a local community college and continued in our instructor's home for 10 yrs. Our class remained with the same students and I can't tell you how much fun we had.Everyone did a good job. No one had painted before. I would suggest taking a class....then you will learn the basics. I find it hard to learn a craft from a book.

I wanted to add....gardeners usually make interesting painters. We learn about color in our gardens and have an eye for creative things. Your food pictures, Ohiomom, are very creative. Just putting colorful food on a plate in an arrangement shows an artistic talent.
