A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

The railroad garden

We had the Grandsons here this weekend. We did a lot of things together, but the favorite thing was a visit to a railroad garden. A small neighboring town had a summer festival this weekend and a couple opened their garden up to the public. They have three acres. Their hobby is railroading. I think that they add to this each year. We were given a slip of paper with all kinds of things for the kids to find in the garden....like an eagle's nest, a man panning for gold, an indian village etc. Some were very hard to find.
One train was a circus train. As it went around the track, bubbles blew out of the last car. We had refreshments by the koi pond. The kids were fascinated by the fish. The fish all wiggled their tails and begged for food.
The kids really enjoyed this part of our day...the pond especially.
We went to a carnival next and they drove the bumper cars. Then on to a mini -golf match to see if Grandma could win this time. Don't even ask! We rented a movie..."Leatherheads" ...about the beginning of pro football. Picked up a huge pizza then headed for home. After we ate I taught them how to do the watercoloring that I have been learning. They did a picture and we framed them. Collin wanted to make his new recipe...chococlate covered pretzels with sprinkles. and Tyler helped make and eat them. We watched the movie and then went right to bed.
In the morning....we were at 8 AM Mass. We came home and finished up the pictures and left for a brunch with the rest of their family.
I was pooped when they left. I always plan to do too much, but we have such a good time together and they are getting to an age, where they will be more self sufficient and won't need someone to take care of them. Kids grow up so fast...soon they will be out on their own and hopefully will have good memories of their times with me.

I visited a garden on a garden walk last summer that had a railroad setup like that. Was that your garden?

No this isn't my garden. It is right off Hale's Corner Rd. on Crestview. If you take Crestview you take a left turn and it takes you to Stillman Road.
I can't remember the couple's name. If you should want it...I have it in my car.

No, that can't be the same one. The one I saw was off Spring Creek I think.

I just know that you are a wonderful grandmother Balish and your grandchildren will have many happy memories of time spent with you. Your 21 year old granddaughter is just beautiful. The railroad garden sounds like so much fun.

Thanks for the comments this morning, ladies. I took care of these boys from the time they were born till they started school. I don't see them as much now, but when I do...we have fun.

I love railroad gardens! The create use of tiny plants is so much fun. Plus the kids enjoy it too. That one looks like a manageable size, unlike the one I saw this summer. It was bigger than the one at the Chicago Botanic Garden.

Hi,
This garden didn't have very many small plants. It was mostly small trees. I saw one on PBS one year that was full of tiny alpine plants. It was really well done. The trains were larger than these too.
