A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

August Bloom Day 2008

This is my August Bloom Day post. I have lots of color as you can see. These black eyed susans are a favorite of mine during the late summer. Like a spot of sunshine where they pop up. They are all across the woods border right now. This is a pass along plant. I got it from a dear friend and brought it with me to my new home. She called it her apricot lily...I don't know the real name.
These are Audra's nasturtiums. The 4 yr. old next door helps me plant. She loves to water....and she can't do it at home. I spoil her.I remember gardening with my Dad. He had such patience with me and taught me a lot as a child. My Mom was not interested in anything outdoors. She was always in the kitchen. She cooked what we grew. A wonderful cook.
We have these phlox in all our gardens here by the Rock River. They are in all the woods and mine too. Such a pretty splash of color.
St. Francis in the woods. The hummingbirds visit these salvia all the time. I sit on my garden bench...all is quiet back there and the birds come to visit.
Here is the mistake plant. I thought my friend gave me calla lilies and they grew huge and turned into cannas. They will go back to the wood border next year.
Hen's and Chicks in a dish. A neighbor made the planter and the hens love it. You can see a bloom on the right.
A pink knockout rose. They have bloomed all summer. You see what I mean about color? Pink roses next to orange and red gailardia.
Lots of hostas are blooming. Tiny ones and some with blooms as tall as I am.
Another knockout rose. Those pesky J. beetles leave these alone.
Hope you enjoyed visiting my garden. I usually like the pinks, blues and purples in the garden. My hubby likes the reds, oranges, and yellows. We haven't been married long and unlike a lot of men, he really takes an interest in the flowers, so we compromise. I think it worked out well. After all....God created all these beautiful things and he really didn't have a color scheme.

I did enjoy visiting your garden! You have lovely blooms and I think we garden alike! I like color and don't mind that a red is next to a yellow or a purple!

Lovely blooms for Bloom Day Balisha. I love that Pink Knockout Rose, is it a double? I have the single red one. They are great, no bugs or disease problems. Your Apricot Lily is pretty. That's nice that you let the neighbor's child help you with the watering, good way to introduce children to a love of nature.

I love the nasturtiums, your little helper is doing a wonderful job with them.

The calla/canna mistake is a bit funny. When I lived in Texas I had a corner where some cannas took over. I finally decided to get rid of them, and was that ever a chore! They keep coming back for a long time.

They are lovely plants, but in someone else's garden!

I very much enjoyed my visit to your garden, thanks for sharing.

Thankyou everybody for visiting. I love seeing what is blooming elsewhere. I have Joe Pye Weed too. It is in the woods. I forgot to include it. It isn't nearly as colorful as yours, ICQB. The knockout is a double..the first year for these. The little girl, who helps me, was here this morning watering everything...plants, our shoes, statues, bugs you name it. LOL

I loved the garden and especially the black-eyed susans. They are so pretty. Your mom sounds like mine. She was a wonderful cook and loved her kitchen. She did not do anything in the yard.

Thanks for joining in for bloom day. I enjoyed seeing your gardens and what you have blooming. My Dad was also the gardener in my family and I followed him around the garden all the time. My mom is definitely an 'inside person'.

Hi Carol,
Thanks for including me. As learn more, I find that I am finding more fun things to do with this blog. This is pretty easy in the summer, what do people blog about in the winter? Houseplants?? Guess I'll find out soon enough.

I love your garden, what wonderful splashes of color! My favorite has to be St. Francis in the woods :)

Hi,
Thanks to all for your nice comments. The area where St. Francis is...was damaged the most during the storm. Lots of branches came down around the statue and the men were tramping all around. I was sitting on the sidelines with my mouth shut...I wanted to say, "Be careful of that hosta...that patch of phlox etc" but was so thankful that we got it all cleaned up again.
