A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

Here is my favorite, Dara Torres. 41 years old and a Mom....competing in her 5th Olympics.

The Beijing Olympic Gardens. A masterpiece. Hmmmm! Was Edward Scissorhands there?

This is the eve of the Olympics 2008. This is something that I really look forward to watching. I have always been fascinated with China. My first recollection about China was my very serious digging to China as a tiny girl. After looking at my globe...I actually thought I could do it. As I grew up I read stories by Pearl S.Buck...The Good Earth for example. These stories were made into movies, which I watched over and over. We supported Chinese missions at my Church and were told stories about Chinese orphans. My Dad used to say, "Clean your plate...think of all the starving people in China." Later on in my life I became acquainted with the American version of their food. The Shanghai Restaurant was a good place to eat. I would take my little kids there and my daughter would ask for a "Chinese cheeseburger" I love my China teapot and learned to drink tea.

Things are changing in our world. When I had to buy a baby gift not long ago...I was surprised to see that the baby clothes were made in China also the little toys. At the market, we were looking for fish....some kinds came from China. Slowly we are starting to see almost everything made in China, in our stores. I watched a program a little while ago and heard that the Chinese export in one day...what they used to export in a year. Astonishing! They are helping countries that the USA hasn't. Angola, Cambodia....others that I don't remember. Making friends around the world with their money and help. I have received several emails showing the Olympic Gardens in China. There are topiary there that look like Edward Scissorhands paid a visit. Beautiful Botanic Gardens. Later a spot on the evening news...showed the Chinese farmers trying to cultivate their bone dry fields. The people have had to give up water so these gardens can be maintained. They have had to change many of their ways because the world will be watching. I hope that my fascination for China will continue the rest of my life. We should be able to coexist in this great big world. We need each other ....imagine what good we could do together.

So, after saying all that.....I will wait with anticipation the opening ceremonies tonight. We have watched all the trials and I will watch my girl, Dara Torres, the 41 year old swimmer. I believe this is her 5th Olympics. She is in great shape...the oldest female swimmer. Of course I would cheer on the "oldest and a female." You Go Girl!

What a great tribute post for 8/8/08. I remember thinking I could dig to china as a girl too, lol. Their gardens are so fascinating to me, the simplicity and greenery.

My mama's favorite line :) Not only did they give up their water, but 1 million people were displaced to host these Olympics .. I am torn on many things about these Olympics, but I wish the athletes well!

I feel the same. I see all the beautiful things...that they want us to see, but in the back of my mind I'm thinking of the poor people. The little children's faces are so innocent. I think the opening ceremonies were spectacular.
