I have a flower blooming right now that is one of my favorites. It is the Blackberry Lily. Big strapping leaves and the tiniest of lilies. I went to visit Mount Vernon with my daughter....and fell in love with that place. Is is probably one of my all time favorite places to visit. I love the idea of all the history there. Thinking of the people who worked keeping the gardens just so. As we were leaving, I decided to buy a little plant to take home to my Illinois garden. The little lily is what I bought. It came here and was transplanted in my next garden and the seeds have been given to lots of friends to plant. It is a tiny orange lily with polka dots. The blossoms last one day and then they curl up in a twisted fashion. When it goes to seed you will find a cluster of shiny black seeds that resemble a blackberry...hence the name. When the lily starts growing in the spring, I remember visiting that garden, and thinking that I have a bit of history right here.

What a lovely way to remember a memorable trip. I love that Blackberry Lily. I've tried growing it before, but I must of had it in the wrong place it didn't reseed or come back.

I had them coming up in my compost a couple of years ago. I gave them away to neighbors. If you want seeds...I'll send them in the fall.

Thanks for your nice comments on my blog. I agree wholeheartedly with the title of your blog, "Never Enough Time".
The large lilies are beautiful but I'm drawn to the tiny ones. My neighbor has tiny bright orange ones and I'm going to ask her for a few because I can't find them in the nurseries.
