A Sentiment

God knew what He was doing when He sent a gentle breeze and brought a lovely butterfly to set my heart at ease. The happiness of your friendship and the gentleness of your words have touched my life in special ways and now I feel assured. Thank you for your loyalty and for reading everyday. I only hope you find things to make a happy day.

The Fast Storm

“A few minutes ago every tree was excited, bowing to the roaring storm, waving, swirling, tossing their branches in glorious enthusiasm like worship. But though to the outer ear these trees are now silent, their songs never cease. Every hidden cell is throbbing with music and life, every fiber thrilling like harp strings, while incense is ever flowing from the balsam bells and leaves. No wonder the hills and groves were God's first temples, and the more they are cut down and hewn into cathedrals and churches, the farther off and dimmer seems the Lord himself.” ―John Muir

I woke to a clattering on the skylights in the living room. The wind was blowing so hard and if felt like the roof could lift off. The lightning flashed and thunder roared. I was up by now...turning on the weather radio. The fast moving storm was out of here as fast as it came in...leaving not much in the rain gauge. As long as I was up I put together some bran muffins and made a big bowl of coleslaw to take to a funeral lunch at Church. Did up the dishes and made some coffee and here I sit looking out the window at our still brown lawn. A little tiny bird is hopping through the dried grass. It's a wren....looking for something to eat. I suppose just a small amount of rain will bring insects to the surface. I have to make this quick today...have to go to Church before the funeral starts. Have a great day...

An addition: Thought I'd come back and put the recipe for my coleslaw down.
I had a package of regular coleslaw from the produce dept. Yesterday, I bought a package of chopped broccoli slaw to add to it. I had some Napa cabbage here already. So, I chopped the Napa and added it to the big bowl of the mixed slaws. Then I dressed it with this dressing...

1 1/4 cups mayonnaise
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper,
salt to taste
a dash of hot pepper sauce
sprinkle with fresh parsley
This makes a nice big bowl of coleslaw
